Re: Thoughts on R5 EVC error w/odd engine behavior

Correct - the raw water pump could be pumping at reduced capacity for some reason - enough to keep the engine from overheating, but not enough flow. Quick things to check - the flush fitting can really be a problem - if you leave that off or loose and it sucks air it will reduce the cooling capacity...

Re: Thoughts on R5 EVC error w/odd engine behavior

I would check two things:

Raw water pump impeller. When was it last changed?

Make sure the cap on your flush hoses is tight. If not tight the pump can suck air and not cool properly. This was probably used during the 100hr service.

Ouch! If we haven't done something like this we will! It can be fixed.

Re: Battery Question

The ACR determines which battery is charged or discharged based on each battery's charge level. It's designed to isolate the batteries when discharging so you don't run boat batteries down with accessories when the engine is off and not charging. Problem is you can't really designate one battery or ...

Re: How could we let this happen?

There are a lot of boat builders / boat building talent in TN - location on the TN river and distribution to the eastern US along with the business friendly nature of TN are factors.

Malibu
SeaRay
MasterCraft
to name a few of the big ones.

Re: Salt Water for the Weekend

Good deal! Pictures or it didn't happen! I know you've been asking a lot of questions about your new boat and even stressing a little - a trip like this is what puts all that behind you so you start really enjoying what having a boat is all about. I remember years ago when I first got the SeaRay 290...

Re: R5 Swim platform/Gator Step

I didn’t put anything under the swim step - only on the side that is up when it is closed.

Re: Gel coat cracks…

Curius how they are fixing it -- is it being sent back to Cobalt? There must be enough movement where the bulkhead is tabbed into the hullside to cause the stress cracks -- if they don't fix that I am certain it will happen again.

Volvo Flush Connection - forgot to put cap on

This might have already been addressed, but I could not find a thread on it. I have a 2014 VP-300 that has a flush attachment inside the engine compartment (newer engines have one at the outdrive AND I think in the engine compartment). I knew that you want to be sure not to forget to put the cap on ...

Re: Trim not responding on plane

It shouldn't drain the battery.
The combine on the battery switch is kind of like an emergency start thing - if one of your batteries is dead, it will combine the batteries so you can get the engine started.

Re: Trim not responding on plane

Just realized your boat is a 2023 - still in warranty I assume. In that case I would only try the bleeding which is really running the trim up/down about 10 times. Past that I would let the dealer handle it as warranty.

Re: Trim not responding on plane

If the fluid is pink is is Dextron ATF, if clear it is power steering fluid. Either is fine, just top off with what is in it - also check level with drive trimmed down. On your boat the trim pump and reservoir is outside the boat and side of drive, you cannot check fluid with boat in water.

Re: Trim not responding on plane

Does the trim work when you are not on plane? I think first I would check the fluid level and bleed the system -- bleeding is easy just run the trim up/down @10 times, system is self bleeding. I had similar issues with my R5 when I first bought it - topping off the fluid and bleeding resolved it. Al...

Re: Head Operation Help

Yeah, salt water much more than fresh water will really stink things up. Just that little bit of water that stays in the head just stinks to high heaven when left. Another "tip" for a deep clean on the holding tank - pump it out, fill it 1/2 full of freshwater and a little bit of dishwashi...
