Sea water filters

I recently saw a reference on you tube to a sea water filter. They made it sound like standard equipment on newer boats. Mine is a 2001 206. They seem easy enough to install but on the other hand, the boat has lived this long without one. Anyone have experience with sea water filter units?

Re: 262 Steering Issues

I will disconnect the cable from the actuator and spin the wheel to see if it binds.

Re: 262 Steering Issues

I have a similar issue with my 2001 206....but not quite as bad. There is a little slop off center and then it binds and then let’s loose and is smooth after that. No leaks. Marine mechanic says “normal wear and tear” and no reason to fix it yet unless it bothers me (it does). The estimate was $1000...

Re: Gauge lights

Thanks, all. I did see the center thingie in the middle, gave it a pull but didn’t try turning it first. I was a little timid not knowing what was what, and things did look delicate. Furthermore the previous owner routed the audio wiring across the back of the gauges, so that’s all in the way. I wil...

Gauge lights

Hi folks. I bought a barely used 2001 206 about a year ago. All is fine but the gauge lights never worked. I’m not on the water at night much but it bugs me. I twirled the dimmer up and down but that had no affect. I looked under the dash at the backs of the gauges and couldn’t see anything that loo...

Main fuse? My 2001 206 is located on the engine on the starboard side.

Re: Hydraulic fluid level

I will do that. My gut tells me you are right and it’s a bit low. Since it isn’t causing any operating problems, and it doesn’t appear to be leaking, I might just Add a half inch, monitor it and talk to a mechanic during its next service.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Hydraulic fluid level

Good point. As the oil is pushed into the lines, the level changes. The hydraulics control the outdrive and the engine hatch. No trim tabs. The picture was taken with the outdrive in the full up position and the hatch open.
So how do I know definitively?

Hydraulic fluid level

I was looking at the hydraulic fluid reservoir and it looked a bit low. Everything is working fine, so just wondering.... there doesn’t seem to be and “full” indicator on the tank. There is a little green sticker that could indicate high/low levels but I am just guessing. Can’t see it in the photo. ...

Re: Fender covers

Thanks for the advice. I guess I’ll pick some up at my local West Marine. They are getting to know my face around there. I bought this boat thinking it was well equipped.....and it was, but “making it my own” is another matter. $$$ but fun too. I am sure everyone is shaking their heads yes. Full of ...

Fender covers

Hey folks, I am new to the forum. Just bought my first boat ( 2001 206 5.7 Volvo penta). I noticed the rubber (or whatever) fenders are scratching my beautiful Cobalt Blue gelcoat. I see that there are fender covers available, but not cheap. My question: do these fender covers reduce the scratching ...
