Re: Pain sucks

I'll still log another 70+ hours on the motor this summer. I just will not look as I hand the dock hands my credit card lol. Like others have said its for recreation and when buying you are taking on the assumption it will cost a lot to operate. Sure it will be more than last year but I will still u...

Re: 350 in a R7 - seeking owner input

I have the 380 in mine and I wouldn't want anything less. Planes just fine with a boat load of people and will still hit low 50's with just me and the wife in the boat. loaded up upper 40's. So my guess would be the 350 would be a mid 40's boat top speed. While I know people do not drive at top spee...

Is this for real or is it like the "Let's go Brian" chant?
It’s Brandon and yes I’m sure the reference is to cargo ships moored off the coast

I used a shop vac to get all the water out of the bilge on mine. Or if you buy one of the pumps to pump oil out of the dipstick that would work too

Congrats! Looks like a well optioned r4! Crazy they charge for fender clips now. They were standard on my r7

Re: New Volvo Penta drain system.

That is the purpose. However a complete winterization requires fogging the engine for the long layover. Once you start up the engine you will need to re-fog if you plan to lay idle for a few months. since the volvo motors are a full closed cooled motor it isn't necessary to fog the motor. They use ...

Re: Trim tabs required?

the boat should be prewired for lenco electric tabs. about a grand to have them installed. So I wouldn't make it a deal breaker if the boat has everything else you want. I have them on my R7 and use them all the time. On my old 262 I rarely used them. Just depends on how you use and and where you bo...

Re: Building an R6, what size engine should I get?

R6 weighs the same as my r7. I have the VP380. I wouldn’t want anything less. Top speed is low 50’s and I have no problems getting on plane with a boat full of adults or pulling a tuber.

Re: Building an R6 - Looks like I'll finally be joining the crew!

I'd choose mooring cover or tonneau cover, not both. I'll take the opposite view. For my next boat I'll order both. I wet slip my boat and it sits out under the hot sun for 3 months through the summer, 5 days a week not being used. I'd like to cover the top of the deck at the front of the boat to k...

Re: Formula Boats

I’m sure this is probably not the best place to ask but has anyone considered the Formula 240 BR instead of the R4? I really am concerned about the weight on the R4 and I don’t like my local Cobalt dealer. If you are interested in the Formula 240 I think a closer comparison is the R6. No head in th...

Re: Formula Boats

I would no doubt look at Formulas but as far as weight goes they make pretty heavy boats as well. As far as motors go I would go with whatever your dealer likes to service.

Lake of the Ozarks which is near me has a huge Formula dealer there and they seem to power all their boats with merc.

Re: Formula Boats

From my understanding, if you are looking for an outboard ocean boat go with the formula. If you are going for an inboard lake boat choose the cobalt. I don't like my local dealer either so I found a different one closer to the lake than my house. I did the same. There are 3 dealers closer to my pr...

Re: Building an R6 - Looks like I'll finally be joining the crew!

I talked to my dealer about adding the tabs and both him and his manager talked me out of it. Said that it wasn't necessary. I was surprised thinking that they would jump all over the upsell. My rep told me to take it out and use for a season and if I notice that I need it, we can always add it on ...

Re: Building an R6 - Looks like I'll finally be joining the crew!

I see you put a tower on the build. If you boat in a warmer climate where you will have the bimini deployed a lot I would throw in the trim tabs. We pretty much have our bimini on our tower deployed from memorial day to October and if you get a bit of a cross wind it can be a wind sail. I would neve...
