Re: R5 Swim platform/Gator Step
I saw your post on the FB group as well, but I'll reply here. I'm surprised you put anything between the swim step and where it rests when folded in. I don't think there is much room at all on mine, and I know it would not sit flush, as you say yours does not. You ask about going with a single laye...

Re: R5 Swim platform/Gator Step
Ok, I got the Gator Step installed on the swim platform, walkthrough (so I don’t have to unsnap Seagrass for engine), and the bow/anchor locker. Turned out great, but have one issue. The swim step doesn’t close flush, because of the thickness of the Gator Step. It’s about 1/4-1/2” raised. Trying to ...
Re: Red Flags
Not sure how I missed this late last season, but it was very timely then. My crew and I religiously used the orange skier down flag when starting or retrieving a downed skier or tuber (etc.). We also ALWAYS use the flag when we are stopped / at anchor, and we have someone around us in the water. Th...

Re: New R6...Registration letter font and anchor suggestions
For the numbers on my Cobalt’s and Malibu’s, I’ve always used DomedNumbers. Here’s the link to the Cobalt letters. Can’t beat them for quality and look. https://www.domednumbers.com/online-store/Cobalt-c22433291 For an anchor, I’ve always loved the small box anchor (plenty for R6) with no chain. Wor...

Re: R5 Swim platform/Gator Step
Ok, so now that the new boat is purchased (https://www.cobaltchat.com/viewtopic.php?t=7426), here is what I am thinking. 1) Marine Mat for the swim deck and anchor locker (keep Seagrass in boat) 2) Sand the texture down with my sander focusing on the outer edges primarily, but if it’s going ‘smooth...

Re: Boat Capacity
I've never seen a 14 to18 person capacity on a boat. Most go from 12 to Yacht Certified. Aren't the R7 and R8 Yacht Certified? I know my Malibu 24 MXZ had a 17 person capacity, but those wake boats are much different with how they need to be able to hand the ballast tanks. My 2020 R5 is 14. I did l...

Re: 2020 R5 - Tower pre-wired?
I know they come pre-wired on the manual fold tower. Pop the four plastic covers where the speakers mount and you should see the wires. They drop down on both sides. You should be able to see the port set by opening the bench seat where the breakers are and looking up toward the mount. Thank you!

Re: R5 Factory tower no tower speakers
There should be an access plate on one or both sides of the tower. Take that plate off and see if the wires reach down to there. That will at least point you to which side to look on. I have identical boat but its a 2017 but can't look at it until December. EDIT: I had a look at my wiring diagram I...

2020 R5 - Tower pre-wired?
Can anyone confirm whether all towers are pre-wired for the R5’s around this age? I have the premium audio (JL speakers + stern speakers, no tower speakers).
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: New to me 2020 R5
Not sure which model I have and I’m not near the boat to poke around. Here’s a pic of the 2… Pretty sure yours is the next model up but I believe it is also discontinued since I was looking for one to buy. It would have been close enough to fit my boat with a little bit of filing plastic! Looked ba...

Re: New to me 2020 R5
Great looking R5, Tan. That should be a blast this summer. It has recently felt, spring-like here, as you well know. We bought ours at Lake Viking 5 yrs ago. Congrats and bring on the boating season!! Thanks! Yeah, the weather has been great - deserved it after the rough January! Looking forward to...

Re: New to me 2020 R5
That stinks - always a worry with the increased electronics. Surprised Cobalt or Garmin can’t pull something together, considering it’s a relatively newer model. The biggest issue is that the new Garmin units are a different size and there are no adapters. If my second unit goes and I have no gauge...

Re: New to me 2020 R5
Get your favorite adult beverage and spend some time playing with the Garmin screens. Wish I was happy with my Garmin screens....I am not. Unfortunately, one of my units NMEA 2000 interface failed so it had to be removed from the network. Unfortunately, impossible to buy a new unit to fit the Cobal...

Re: Boat Capacity
Not sure about the formula, but it’s not just size/length of boat. Other factors are type, material, and buoyancy. The number is about safety rather than comfort.
