Re: Windless - Pro and Con

A windless is one option I will definitely get on my next Cobalt. But, for those that want to pull that anchor in themselves, try an aluminum Fortress. The 7 model would work well for most of us. As most of us are pretty picky about our boats, I who'll note I am the only one to pull my anchor up bec...

Re: Hit Something Below Water Surface

Hi Gents! I wanted to follow up on having my B3 prop set cupped (to reduce RPM by 100), balanced and polished. Note that there was no real damage to correct, so both props were $350. Performance wise, I took my '13 232 (Merc 350 Mag MPI) to the lake Wednesday to test everything out and see what MPH ...

Re: CG enforcing kill switch law

Lots of posts re this law on my local lake community (Lake Anna). What we've heard is it applies to tidal waters in Virginia. So, the lake is free of this nonsense. IMO it's another feel good law from our nanny state. What's next - a pressure plate on the swim platforms that controls ignition? How m...

Cobalt quick attach for fender (w/ black rope)

I have one slightly used Cobalt quick deploy fender attachment male quick connect with the black rope attached. I was visiting a GF in Mattituck, NY and a fender w/ quick connect washed up on the beach in front of her house. I don't have this option, so I offer it up for sale. Make me an offer. I do...

Re: Cobalt swim step - size small

Hey gents! I thought I had thrown this swim step out, but I found it in the closet of a spare bedroom. LOL. Bachelor life. Anyway, it's available with the original shipment box from Cobalt. It's the small swimstep only - no hardware. I don't get alerts, so text me if interested - 8 o 4. three96. thr...

Ha! I may weigh less, but I still use those water saddle things to float around. :)

Hydrostatic Weight

Hey gents! I was watching a diving video and they mentioned the impact of hydrostatic weight - things weight 2/3 once submerged. That said, do our boats have a perceived weight of 2/3 rated on the water (vs when on the trailer)? And for those much smarter that me, does the equation mean the force un...

Re: Total weight - 5000Lb Towing Capacity

While not normally a rule breaker, I tow my '13 232 with my '13 4Runner up to Lake Anna almost weekly during the summer (125 miles round trip). The Heritage trailer has four disk brakes and everything is kept in good order. That said, I'm pretty sure I'm over the tow limit of the 4Runner (5K). It's ...

Re: How do you Winterize ..Sad Day

Hi Gents, First, I will say we have some very experienced boaters here - and some great advice. Great forum! I worked in the petro additives business and have a bit of knowledge on oil tests and additive packages. That said, I find that most boaters, and even more Cobalt owners, tend to "over m...

Re: How do you Winterize ..Sad Day

After a nice afternoon on Lake Anna Friday, I decided to service and winterize the boat today - Saturday October 24th. This is the latest I have winterized in 8 years. This year was a slow boating year - I added only 50 hours to total 368.1. My routine is to change the gear lube with High Performanc...

Re: Hit Something Below Water Surface

Over the Memorial Day holiday I hit what I believe was a post with barbed wire - often placed in the water to keep cattle from walking out into water to change grazing spots. I didn't see anything, and I was at idle speed, but I certainly felt it. The post (had a bit of wood wedged in my drive showe...

Re: All dash gauges functionally went out (but still light up)

Good deal. I'm thinking I was pretty darn close on that one 😉👍👌 Hi! Indeed you were. I will say one of my weaker skills (probably due to impatience) is my electronic diagnostic skills. I did take a look, but looking at the nest of wires behind the dash was a bit much. I just checked the boat, and a...

Re: Chock your wheels.

I'll confess here... I once unhitched my trailer on my driveway (slight slope towards the rear) and forgot to chock the tires. Fortunately I had the safety cables attached. If it had rolled it would have hit a fence a few feet away. Anyway, by habit, I now leave the safety cables (chains) attached u...

Re: All dash gauges functionally went out (but still light up)

Well, I just heard from my local shop (Nautical Marine) - a ground wire behind the dash had broken loose from it's mount. I figure about $250 for 1.5 hours per the mechanic. For a boating bill, I guess that isn't too bad. Looks like Sunday will be good for boating on the lake. :)
