Dock line eye splicing project

I picked up some Samson super-strong double braided rope for anchor and dock lines, and finally got around to picking up a fid and pusher from Samson to make some dock lined with loops spliced into the ends. I used the video provided by New England Ropes, which is a little better than the Samson vid...

Re: 210 with Volvo DP 300 or 320 hp

They have changed it up a bit over the years, and not all information from Volvo is consistent. You'll get an envelope with the engine, which includes the latest and greatest break-in recommendations as well. My summary notes are: First 5-10 minutes - do not exceed 1500 rpm, vary speed First 2 hours...

Re: 210 with Volvo DP 300 or 320 hp

Here's a propeller application chart showing selected propellers, top speeds, etc., for various Cobalt 210 configurations (click "view image" in your browser if it's too small to read) from Cobalt. Some of the numbers seem a little suspect (the V8-225 single prop gets on plane faster than ...

Re: Cobalt boats has a new president

I was a little surprised they went outside the Neodesha, KS family for a new president, but this guy seems to have the background and experience to run a multi-site manufacturing company. I had read that Cobalt was producing its bigger boats (A40, etc) in Tennessee going forward, and aspires to comp...

Re: Towing vehicles and towing issues

I don't have a ton of experience, but we tow our Cobalt 210 (a little under 5000lbs) with a VW Touareg TDI on a EZ Loader Custom twin-axle trailer with surge disc brakes that the local dealer orders decked out with Cobalt logos. We got the mooring cover, which works great (next to no buffeting at fr...

Cobalt boats has a new president

According to reports: Cobalt Boats has named Terry Clark as its new company president, the company announced Thursday. Clark was formerly with Textron Aviation, recently formed by the merger of Cessna and Beech Aircraft. He has worked in manufacturing, sales and service operations for 25 years, and h...

Re: What We Can Learn From This Accident?

Most Cobalts have a significant amount of freeboard relative to competitive boats, but mine's a bowrider and I don't expect I'd last long at all if waves started coming over the bow. Only boats 20' or shorter are required to float once capsized (the rule is they have to float level, even if inverted...

Re: trailer needs work but how?

The basic process goes something like: Bring trailer in position and lower the tongue as much as possible. Place wood blocking below the keel near the stern, and blocking at sides of stern if blocking isn't v-shaped to fit boat profile. Crank trailer tongue back up so most of weight is on wood block...

Re: Rock guards/flaps for towing

I've heard the towtector ones work very well for a few friends, but don't have first-hand experience. I've seen other solutions at boat shows and whatnot, such as: http://www.trailer-rockguard.com/ that apparently don't hold up as well, and http://www.kwikpfyt.com/PickupsAndSuvs.html which is simila...

Re: 210 with Volvo DP 300 or 320 hp

That depends a lot on when you order it. I ordered mine the last day of 2014, and it arrived at the dealer in early April, but an order in early summer may mean you're four+ months away from seeing the boat. Your delaer should be able to get an estimate for you.

Re: 210 with Volvo DP 300 or 320 hp

No, they are a little different in addition to their different orientations. a few local shops specialize in repair - looks like they should be back to new for under $250, but still... time to start watching where I'm going.

Re: 210 with Volvo DP 300 or 320 hp

That's a lot of engine for the boat, and I'd think you'll be just fine. If not, you're looking at maybe $1200 to find a discounted set of propellers, and about $1400 list. Ask me how I know. (Dinged a propeller on a rock a couple weeks ago, and am now motivated not to let that happen again).

Re: 210 with Volvo DP 300 or 320 hp

Volvo recommends changing gear ratios in the outdrive if much higher than 3500 feet, but a propeller change would accomplish about the same thing with less cost. It's also easy to switch back and forth with a $20 tool if you boat at different altitudes. The real issue with altitude is that the boat ...

Re: 210 with Volvo DP 300 or 320 hp

I have a new 210 with the same 5.7L V8 engine, but tuned to run 225hp instead of 300 or 320hp. The only difference between the 225 and 300 is the throttle body and ECU, while the 320 has several parts changed to get the extra horsepower. Top speed is a little under 50MPH, but only 3.5 seconds to get...

Re: how to eliminate torque feed back?

So the trim tab hangs down into where the propeller spins? Normally, the propeller would be in front of the trim tab, so I wonder a bit if there's an incorrect propeller or trim tab for the sterndrive? A quick search shows there are a bunch of different Mercruiser anodes, some of which look like the...
