Re: New to me 2020 R5
Not sure which model I have and I’m not near the boat to poke around. Here’s a pic of the 2… Pretty sure yours is the next model up but I believe it is also discontinued since I was looking for one to buy. It would have been close enough to fit my boat with a little bit of filing plastic! Looked ba...

Re: New Batteries
I figured Duracell car and boat batteries were just a money grab to trade on the good name of their AA, 9V, etc. consumer batteries, but their lead acid batteries are pretty consistently rated highly by places like Consumer Reports that do actual testing.

Re: Replace Seagrass
If you want Cobalt original stuff it may be available from your Cobalt dealer, but Cobalt typically won't want to sell to you directly.

Re: Subwoofer behind captains seat not working
Just following up. I white flagged it and had a tech check it out during the annual service. It turned out to be a loose deustch connector to the sub - hope this helps someone in the future. Thanks for the suggestions. Thanks for reporting back, and glad we were on the right track with our advice!

Re: New Batteries
I think there are really only a few battery makers out there, labeled as lots of things (Johnson Controls, Delphi, East Penn, Exide?). Johnson controls brands include Duralast, Interstate, Diehard, Kirkland, Motocraft, and others, and I've just bought Interstate dual purpose marine batteries from Co...

Re: Which 220S?
There are two recent Volvo Penta V8-300 motors out there - the 5.7L (which the 2015 boat likely has, but tweaked a bit to become a V8-320) and the 5.3L (which the 2017 boat likely has). The 5.7L has a cast iron block, is a bit heavier, doesn't have direct port fuel injection but is fuel injected, an...

Re: Which 220S?
The V6-280 has variable valve timing and advanced fuel injection that the V8 doesn't, and is a bit lighter (903 vs 1022lb dry) due to its aluminum block and smaller overall size. Add the newer tech like direct port fuel injection, and I don't think I'd feel at all bad about having the V6 280 instead...

Re: Which 220S?
The change in boat quality is real, but the amount of change you'll see in the same boat design between 2015 and 2020 probably isn't all that great - your best bet is probably to give each boat a thorough look-over and pick the one that has the fewest problems or flaws and feels right to you. I like...

Re: Adding Underwater Lights to 2024 Cobalt R6
Shadow caster should be able to integrate with the garmin on the NMEA 2000 backbone. It should also be able to use the factory button to turn on and off as well as the mfd https://www.shadow-caster.com/products/marine-led-lighting-controls/nmea2000-lighting-control-multi-zone-lighting-controller/ N...

Re: Adding Underwater Lights to 2024 Cobalt R6
I don't have an 8610, but I'm curious how it would be able to change color and dimming of ambient lights. Is there a screen control that suggests it can do that? I think it can control certain marine stereos (e.g. Fusion) over a NEMA2000 network, but it looks like you might need a completely separat...

Re: R6 Surf Transom Tie Downs
Have a welder put an attach point further to the outside on your trailer Good idea. If the attachment on the trailer were on the outside of the red beam we see in the photo it might be close. I don't think I'd feel terrible about trimming back the outside edge of the trim tab just a bit if the tie-...

Re: Shifter too loose. How to tighten??
Yeah, it's part of the lever mechanism. If you can post a picture of the throttle control you have it may help people here identify which one it is and help guide you to adjusting it if you choose to do it yourself. It's most likely a screw (hex, if I remember) behind the cap covering where the thro...

Re: R6 Surf Transom Tie Downs
Looks like there was space to move that trim tab a bit to the right - not sure why the guy bolting them on didn't see what we all seem to see... It looks like the angle that the hydraulic ram is on, it is already pretty tight at the top end. It might not install correctly if the tab was moved over ...

MN, I'm regretting not taking pictures for you during our 10-day zero degree stretch last week There's fresh ice on the roads this morning - maybe I'll find something to post to make you miss home.
