Dual Action Forced Polisher

Post by AsLan7 »

.
Anyone have some actual time using a dual action forced polisher--specifically the Flex XC3401 such as the one below? If so, what were your thoughts?

I have a Porter Cable which I like and which is about a third the price - see the review of the differences between the two here:

Thanks John. I've seen that video before and did not think it was fair to compare a forced polisher with a non. Kind of like an apples to oranges comparison...especially for the price diff.

Aslan,

I think he does a good job of showing when and why the Flex 3401 is a better all-around tool for a lot of uses, and how the mechanisms differ. There aren't too many other tools out there that have forced orbit rather than random orbit and are directly competitive (e.g., the Makita BO6040 is now discontinued).

If the Flex were in the budget and you planned to do some aggressive polishing, I think it's a no-brainer. As for me, I got mine for under $100 and it does what I need.

Thx John for the input.

The PC's advantage is the ability to use smaller pads if desired for harder to reach areas-- and of course price. It will certainly accomplish what the Flex can for larger areas but will just take longer since it is not forced....plus the Flex can work any "marred" areas faster-- and of course the entire hull of a boat faster.

I use the TORQ Random Orbital Polisher on my cars and my boat. Does a good job and doesn't leave swirls.

Says the guy with mouth balls. Where is Liquid when I need him? I need some HELP up in here!

A7 I bought a cheap Chinese buffer on Amazon for 35 bucks to do the occasional buff and polish. It works pretty good. On the other hand, if I was going to be doing a lot then I Would go the extra mile and get the good stuff. Just my two cents

I couldn't help it. You opened the door wide open for me.Thank you.
Yt I have no idea where Oscar has his garbage can lately. It's off the grid I guess. We have to get him a hot spot for Christmas.
Sorry A7 not derailing your thread. I use a good ole Milwaukee from work it's free. I don't want to touch my black if I don't have too.

I hand rubbed the hull before storing and I now have a popeye arm from all the "wax on..wax off" movement. It was worth it but still not as good as a professional buffer can accomplish.

Here is a half way done shot working backward (from bow to transom) showing my "elbow grease" accomplishment. Way too much work.

The pains of having a Big boat lol. For 10 years I waxed NautiGirl 1.0 myself no problem. With 2.0 I'm bringing Mr.Nauti to help me out...4 more feet to do this year!

That's awesome that you partake in the buffing activities with your hubby, Nauti. Certainly makes it easier to manage the oxidation. 8-)

Waxing I'll do by hand. Buffing I'm just plain tired of it.

Totally agree, BBp . I'm going to ask the honey for a forced action buffer for Christmas.
