Why would you want a larger engine. Doesn't make sense to me.
Can't wait to hear the options you go with. At least you will beat the show orders.

Go with the 350hp. It will cost you more (the Merc is less $ than the Volvo). Both are duel prop drives. Volvo is all aluminum block with closed cooling, variable valve timing and direct fuel injection. If you're on salt water, I would go with the closed cooling Volvo. And certainly don't worry about fuel consumption. Remember this is a boat!
In my "humble opinion", you can never have enough power. My previous boat was 65 mph plus and my 2017 220S with the 6.2L 350 hp Merc Bravo 3 is a 53mph boat at 2900' elevation on freshwater lake. I miss the top end speed, but 53 mph is not bad. Am having a little cup added to the rear 3 blade prop as I have plenty of WOT. The cup shouldn't sacrifice much of my hole shot. I'll post results next Summer, as my Baby has been put to bed here in NW Montana. Regarding a good deal, go with your local Cobalt dealer. Depending on options, expect to pay $68,000 to $78,000 with trailer.

Even though I got a lower horsepower motor, I ended up with a V8 in a 210 because it had better cruising fuel efficiency and better torque (faster to plane) with the duo prop than the other options.

Not sure how often I'd ever go 65mph, but it seems like I'm putting gas in all the time. In short, think about how you'll use it while deciding on the engine - it's not easy to change your mind.

Maybe BB took A7's advice on the bottle of NyQuil and Bottle of whiskey. However, mistook the "small bottle" for the "super size".

Does anyone have any experience with the EVC that would be willing to share thoughts? I test drove the standard shift and thought it was really smooth.

Sounds like the 350 is the way to go. :)

I'm not sure but did Tuscany add this to his?
Yes go as big as you can afford. 350 is a great choice. I've had a 220 with every engine from the 5.7gi to the 8.1gxi. Each one has its advantages and each one will work. It's just nicer the more you load the boat up the less it will have to work to get on plane and stay on plane at lower speeds. No one ever says I wish I had the smaller engine.

Went and spoke with another dealer today, he thinks there is only a 3 - 4 mph top end gain between the 300 & 350hp, not sure I'm sold on the 350 for the 5 - $6,000 price increase. Being they're both 5.3L's the low end torque would be close to the same, the new 300 is a horse.

The 226 had a 7.4L 310hp and would run close to 60mph, the new 220 will do ~50mph. Guess the "no replacement for displacement" saying stands true. :D

You can't compare the 226 totally different hull. It was very fast hull for Cobalt. Ok
5.7gi even the 280hp one to the 5.7gxi 320hp top end very close within a few mph. But hole shot and midrange much nicer. Same concept but well worth the extra cash. Ok
8.1gi 375hp to the 8.1gxi 420hp
Not much hp diff they say the gi torgue out of the hole is the same or better. Ok not true huge diff in hole shot and midrange, top end with in a few mph. To me well worth the extra cash now and resale.
Yes the 300 maybe a horse but the 350 will be a thoroughbred. Myself I would start with the engine then build around it. But that's me. But I play in the used market right now.

Tuscany you got the bonus do you wish you had less hp now? What would you order if you had to do it again.

Yeah, I agree that the 226 was a really fast hull for cobalt. Had a 220 prior to the 226, don't remember the hp rating but it was a V8 and there was a big difference in perf.

Wish I could find a new 220S to drive with the 350, seems that most dealers order the new 280hp V6 (hear thats a great motor too). I drove the 18 with the 300 and was blown away at the power of the new nextgen Volvo, hull shot was insane.

I'll get it all figured out and get my order in soon, it's fun to me going through the process. :D

Not sure what all the dealers think on stock ordering. I know they do it and have been doing it for years. They order on price. They want the lowest priced boat at the boat show. But most of us don't want the lowest priced boat. At a min I would want a 300. Yes I would love to try out the new engines. But I had a 300 hp in my 2004 200 and I hated the power. It was a dog trying to get it on plane. I normally have 6 adults and a bunch of kids so our boat is always loaded that's why I go big. It was one of my favorite boats but just didn't have the power. So I couldn't imagine having a smaller engine. It depends on how you will use it. I think Alaska had the 250 and it works for him. I would still pay the extra. So what other options and colors are you thinking?
