Does VP have a torque hub

Post by NE Zack »

Had a little accident over the weekend. Our boat has the Volvo forward drive and we struck something in the water. We ruined a prop set and I think screwed up the “torque hub”. This all happened at the ramp I think some one was throwing boulders off the dock aswewere plenty deep when loading.
So here is the damage report
1 props destroyed
2 props will not turn

So my question is what did I break internally that the props don’t spin?

Thanks for the help

That's a insurance call. Bring it in. Some gears may have broken inside of she won't turn. A rubber prop hub isn't going to save that one. That sucks.

Agreed. Call your insurance, that's what it's for! Sure sorry to hear about that. It sucks with a new boat

Agreed. The forward drive doesn’t have a a lift angle that can actually raise the props. It just changes the angle to something totally useless..
I get the idea, the design is for safety, but they need to take that idea back to the design board and invent something that will protect the props.
Don’t feel bad Zack, we’ve all been there.

That’s what insurance if for my friend. Hopefully it’s a quick fix.

Well I figured out what we struck....the heritage custom trailer. The trailer is built to protect the drive while trailering hoever if you have the wheel turned while loading / unloading the drive strikes the trailer..... not a well thought out design in my opinion. As far as the forward drive we love it so far boat just turned 20 hrs yesterday.

O yea we had a great weekend and the “accident “ didn’t take away from any time on the water.
I’m planning on taking it to the dealer tomorrow morning

That is horrible! Is the trailer not modified at all for the fwd drive... loading a boat isn't a straight on the trailer deal...conditions def change.

Got any pics!?!?!? We need pics!

.
Sorry to hear this neZack.

When we struck our VP props, I filed an insurance claim so they could also x-ray the gears to determine the extent of the damage.

It was all covered.

Like Nauti said, any pics?

Ok this is a problem then. How many other surf boats have the same trailer design. This isn't your issue then. Let's us know what you're dealer says. I'm always turning going on the trailer you should be no different. Good luck and that really sucks. Sounds like a new drive is in order.

You must have had the drive all the way down?

Others surfs I would check yours right away.

I agree.
The trailer taking out your drive is a freakin joke. I would be returning that trailer to your dealer tomorrow, and have them supply you with something that took the designer more than a minutes worth of their time to reconfigure for a forward drive. .
Then ask for a damage reimbursement from Heritage for your troubles.

My trailer has a huge notch designed in the drive area where there are zero chances of contact for a standard drive. If it were designed for a forward drive, the notch would have to be about three feet further in. I’d have to think most others are designed with proper clearance.

Trailer pic. My dealer tells me I’m not the first this has happened to.

Tuscany what brand of trailer do you have?

Di you have any side picturesof the boat on the trailer. It's hard to tell where the bunks end and where the trailer keeps extending out the back. That looks messed up. So what did the dealer do for the other surf model customers. I guess he forgot to tell thoug that little detail. I'll stand up for the dealer all day long but this is a big issue.
