I actually live 5 minutes from Long Island Sound but the water isn't great for what we do. I also get more use on the lake. There are frequent small craft advisories and I have been able to go out on a beautiful day at the lake while the sound is a washing machine.

I live in Richmond, VA, and Lake Anna is 65 minutes away. I trailer to the lake, but hope to be buying a vacation home at Smith Mountain Lake which is three hours away.

Behind me is Alabama on the left and Florida in the middle. Perdido Bay in between and split between AL and FL. Nice protected inland water with gulf access. Intercoastal waterway (ICW) runs right through here also.

I visited Perdido Key a few times but never got out on the water. The bay seemed like a great place to take a boat.

The area here. Mobile Bay to,left and Pensacola Bay to right (not shown) with this AL and FL gulf coast all in between. Yes AL does have a gulf coast.

Southern, when you are done boating for the day, what do you need to do to flush out the salt?
Do you flush every time?
Thanks.

Yes flush every time. I used to do this every time when trailered. This is My 5th boat so I have done a lot of this. I am dry stored at a marina so now boat is pulled, flushed and washed down by the marina crew (unless I take a hankering to do it myself, which I will occasionally do also to keep in touch with her myself). There is a flush hookup direct (no clip on suction cup required) so it's much better than before to do this.

The engine it's closed cooling anyways isn't it? So you just have the basic water inlet side and exhaust and the boat itself? Not to side track this thread more but how is the engine performing?

Yes it's closed so freshwater cooled but still flush out the salty stuff from the risers etc.

We mainly boat at Laurel Lake in southeastern Ky. It's a 3 hour drive to get there so we always camp for 3-5 days. Since we're retired, our trips are usually during the week when it's less crowded.

We started boating there about 1978. We lived much closer then. It's in the Daniel Boone national forest with crystal clear water. Because of it's location there are no homes or businesses on the lake, only 2 marinas. So when you leave the ramp, you don't see much except water, trees and cliffs.

We store the boat in an enclosed garage there for 6-7 months. There are other lakes where we live (just south of Louisville) but none we have found that compare. Only problem is over the years it has gotten busier. They use to advertise it as "Kentucky's best kept secret" but no more. The water is chilly and deep.
