Norcold fridge operation

Post by cmattj »

I'm trying to figure out the norcold fridge operation on my 282.
I'm not a big fridge on a boat user but I thought I would ask

It does goes on with battery on and accessory switch on.. has anyone shore powered the battery charger with battery on 1.and left the fridge on?? To leave it cold?
It appears it's only 12v and I'm lacking an inverter? Maybe I'm missing something but since she sits on our hoist between outings I thought it would nice to keep it cold.. without melting the boat down :D

Hey Matt sorry I haven't got back to you on this. Geeze where does the time go.....

Apparently the system is operational only with the battery switched starboard side #1 on, and the accessories dash switch as well. From there you simply turn your unused Norcold fridge on and allow it ample time to cool before adding your items.

Although in theory you could shore power your system to operate the battery charger.... it would get quite a work out keeping up with the battery drain at the same time. (not to mention charging the other bank also.)

Pre cooling your fridge should be done safely prior to boarding and boating for the day. Hope this helps.

haha ! Well even the Folks at Norcold say on a 12volt fridge i would damage it by leaving the battery charger on to supply power as its "unfiltered amperage? The reply was."Don't you have 2 batteries?" sheesh....

So since they don't have any solutions I thought Id bump this thread to see if any new members with Norcold fridges that are 12V only are using them regularly, and there experience. I really only wanted to leave waters in there anyway for convenience and storage.

Im puzzled why Cobalt didn't use AC/DC fridges then. maybe they do now?

That is strange. To me that makes it kind of useless. I wouldn’t want that draining my batteries all day, night, or weekend. I looked on their site and it doesn’t say if the fridge on the r30 or 35 is ac or dc. Guess that would be a question for customer service

We'll seeing that this thread never got derailed😂

When I was at the Cobalt Factory I heard that they start every day with a AC/DC album to boost the morale of each employee!
