Here is something you don't see every day

Post by Ytmsn »

When I went to the marina at Table Rock Lake today they had this on display in the corner of the showroom. It's a 1968 GT500 Cobalt, one of 15 made. The guy said he thinks there's only 4 left and existence but a quick Google check looks like there may be a few more, although some may be copies. This is the boat that Donzi sued Cobalt for because it was a copy of a sweet 16.

Either way, I had some serious drool over this ride!

And in this case there were bottles of Cobalt wine. Has anyone here ever tried some?

Not as sexy as a sweet 16 but still gorgeous.

Don Aronow is still my first boating hero despite his checkered past. He created some amazing and beautiful boat's.

Plus the 16' was also our first.

My dad had the Holman Moody drive on his Donzi 16. His was not trimmable

Great pics YTMSN.

Some of the best pics ever seen on this the site.

Btw, sent this forum link to my dad.

He said that Cobalt outdrive does not look trimmable either as can be seen from the holes on the side where the bolts go into for drive placement.

He also replied--"it would be a close race!"

The copy is so obvious. The Cobalt even has the flags on the side. He said it was powered by a 351 For. I'd like to take it out, just once..

Gotta love clean old boats, nice pics

http://mahoganyoutfitters.com/listings.php
They are in a old Ford dealership close to where I work, they even have a restaurant in building, like going there for lunch and checking out the boats, the guy that owns it also has a fully restored Sinclair gas station complete with tow truck, pretty neat, and it just sits there for looks I guess

With all due respect to my BFF (Yt): The GT was splashed from the Corsican, the XV's from the Sweet 16 -- known collectively as the "lawsuit models."

Here's an XV in action:

.

While beautiful and frighteningly fast, they are not in my opinion the first gen Cobalts. They are a prelude. More later . . .
