Mxboy, take a look at this 2013 Cobalt Boats 232. Very nice with a 300hp engine in it and only 40 hours. I bought my 220 from this dealer in July. I think that price would be very negotiable.

Mx,
Cobalt dealers have their own little protection thing going on. It sucks to high heaven, but the by product of making people pay more than they should by eliminating competition is insuring solid resale.

You have to be lucky when it comes the dealer owning your territory. Some think they are selling 14 carat gold, while others are selling boats.
There are always other boat brands available. Don't fall in love and do crazy things...💸💸💸

Agree. Go somewhere and drive the 300hp...compare the two. Of course the dealer says the boat can handle it he's trying to sell a boat. No one wants you to spend all that money and settle for a boat you won't love.

AJ, let me rephrase.
IMO, I’m sure Cobalt or any other builder will give their dealers a certain amount of floor time. Probably 1-3 months would be a good guess. After that, a dealership had better be liquid enough to pay the bills. Some boats sit for a year or two, and the dealerships ability to not cave in tells me that they have no pressure and really could care less if it sits..
That tells me there is no floor plan debt pressure to deal with, which makes for a healthy business.

I see the pressure thing and agree with what u say.

Floor plan lending in the auto field is that a bank lends 100% on the cost of the vehical and requires only interest payments. Theybdo that because they have ageeements with the mfg that they will take back the auto if they go belly up.

Not sure if this is how the boat biz works but I would guess so.

Also, there is one little exception in the Cobalt territory rule.
Like you AJ, if you have a lake home address somewhere outside/different than your main home address dealership territory, I can’t see how the lake home territory dealership can refuse you the sale. Their sales territory is supposedly more about dividing a service territory, not a sales territory. So if you boat at address number 2, they can not refuse the sale.

So although you live in Columbus OH, you should be able to buy a new boat in NY at our Lake Chautauqua dealership..which may never return a phone call, but you will deal with a bunch of really good guys who will cut you a deal and give good service🤣

So are you guys saying that if I found a good deal at a dealer in CA, for example, they might not sell to me because there's a dealer in AZ?
