Cobalt Air Compressors

Post by TommyTahoe »

I have the optional air compressor in my 226- it is almost slower than using my breath to pump up tubes for my kids. The thing is a piece of junk- not sure what Cobalt was thinking with this option. Has anyone switched theirs out or have any suggestions besides removing and buying a portable one? Thanks in advance.

I have an absolutely stellar compressor in my car. Very fast, smooth and quiet.

You need to hook this one up to a Battery as it draws too much for a lighter socket.

That's a high pressure pump. For tubes and stuff you need a low pressure high volume pump. Not sure how that works on tubes. Great for tires.
We have this Coleman one works good. I have to take a picture of our cobalt one also. We had one just like it and burned it up after a couple of years.

Don't remember the brand, but we use a portable 12v compressor. I use the utility plug by the glovebox and inflate a 3 person tube (2 bags) fairly quickly. It will deflate as well, but opening the valves and folding the tube works. It's a small package and easily stores underneath.

I have the same one as BB. Works like a charm. I only blow up on land.

I got this one. Read for many they don't pump up enough so need a manual to add to pump or add later in the day. Not. This one seems to pumps high enough pressure and deflates. This one Hooks to batt or there is a smaller less pressure one to lighter outlet. Not wild about climbing down and having to hook up and unhook but maybe someone can share a good option to run a wire and post up to the wall where other posts are by batt switch to hook on/off more easily???

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to go the portable route and take out the one in the boat for more storage.

I used the white one to try it and it draws allot. I had it plugged into the acc plug in the glove box and it kicked out the stereo memory. So I'm going to add a plug on its own and directly to the battery for any compressor I decide to use. I'm post a picture of the plug when done.

Here is a pic of the stock Coleman pump. I ended up buying the Coleman Quick Pump 12V which has worked well this past weekend. However, it did interrupt my Stereo during inflation. Maybe I could swap the new for the old?

^ that's what mine did also when I had it plugged in by the glove box. So I just added a new plug wired directly to the battery on its own circuit. I'll see if that fixes that issue. Sometimes if you turn on your docking lights you might get that too.
