263 Sea trial semi fail

Post by AsLan7 »

Well,

Honey and I took the 263 out this afternoon.
Slowly learned all slow speed characteristics which passed with flying colors. Love the shifting on bravo 3 and no issues steering as well. Handles beautifully during low speed trials.

Then brought boat up on plane and same results--beautiful handling and ride.

Then 10 minutes on plane at 2/3 throttle at 35mph, engine alarm comes on and limp mode kicks in. This had happened in Vegas but was fixed --or not.

Engine Temperature showed 175
Great oil pressure
Clean water.

With newer impeller, new transom tube, sensor cleaned, I'll have marine tech up here check it out.

Oh...depth sounder just blinks 0.0. Went thru all settings & will have to get that looked at.

Engine alarm would stop when boat brought back to idle. Let cool and try again--same result x 5.
We did hit 60 mph easily though! When she's running she's a running!

Other than that, it was a great day on the water!!

Well that's a bummer. Drive lube likes to kick on the alarm, oil pressure senders like to also and the temp sensor does. Should be a easy fix.

When I called tech in Vegas, he mentioned possibly a sensor issue. Power steering pump sensor on rear of big block? Here's a pic I took:

Excellent day...!! I knew she'd run good and it looks awesome sitting in the water..

You'll need someone to scann so you don't throw parts at it.. it will store the codes..
I did notice your drive fluid seemed low but I'm not sure it will guardian mode the system..
Hard to see the water flow with the platform I'm sure but low water pressures at idle will be more alarm triggered..

Your a scann away from stardom!!

Have fun!!

Thanks for the encouragement Matt.
Yes, hoping ECU scan will reveal the issue.

Although I must say, I'm concerned that this was supposed to be fixed at Gerry's in Vegas. Those tech's have been in the business for years. If they did not fix it, there may be a bigger issue. 😳😳😳

I'll keep ya posted on what scan reveals.

Btw, 263 is a fairly rare boat.

Imagine my surprise when I pull up to the boat ramp today and see this trailer!

I was going to go search out this particular 263 on the water, however, that got cancelled when engine "limp" mode kicked in.
Ughh

60 Wow! Good luck troubleshooting and hope it's a 10 cent part that's an easy swap out! My only similar was "maybe" seaweed or other fouling the intake causing low flow. Only happened 1 time for brief period (in vp) but engine temp started rising close to 180 and alarm/limiter kicked in.

Thx SBMan.

Yes, I saw that same issue on our Volvo once when weeds clogged intake. Jumped in and cleared the intakes--good to go.

Today, I did jump in the water to make sure Bravo III intake was clear. 73 degree lake temp was refreshing. Nothing clogging though.

Yes it's weird when a big boat like that can hit 60 no prob and my little 22 didn't hit it yet

Good luck getting it sorted out. Like Southern says, maybe it'll be something simple.
That is a beauty of a boat!

It just goes to show what a hull design can effect. Maybe I can put mine inside of yours?

What is on front of that trailer? What is that used for?

I wondered the same thing. Sure looks like holders for two motorcycles, which appear to be missing. Maybe they're on a barge behind the Cobalt. Aslan needs to confirm this...

Sometimes folks put dock boxes there. Sure wish I could find the owner and introduce him to our site.
