Need an engine 350V8

Post by Jwill »

Unfortunately during the spring freeze(late March) this year, my block froze and cracked. I’m in need of a replacement now, unless I sell the boat as is.

2006 226 w 350hp.

Please let me know if anyone has a lead on one close, and maybe knows of a good mechanic on Lake LBJ west of Austin. Thank you

Justin

Bummer. This happened in the spring and you're just now looking?
Good luck.

I was going to say I bet this is from Texas!

All depends on how much you want to pay and what you want to buy.

I work in the hospital system, needless to say I haven’t had much free time.

I want the least expensive motor to get my boat back up and running. I don’t really wanna pay 12k to get my boat back in the water

Can you describe the engine a bit more? Volvo or Mercury? Displacement? Model number would be great. I suspect BBP has a couple ideas if you can make it just a bit easier.

Yes, it’s a Volvo Penta 5.7Gi. I don’t have the model number as it’s at my lake house. Image

I was looking around for a for a friend's boat awhile ago. Since she was selling it anyway, they threw a salvaged truck's motor in it. Who knows if they even replaced the casting(freeze) plugs with brass among other things. I personally don't recommend doing that unless you just want to rebuild the salvage truck motor after you buy one. That may be your only option though. Just make sure it is an engine with Vortec heads which is anything 96 and later. I wouldn't trust your heads.

Make sure your manifolds aren't also cracked.

Because of the Texas freeze, there are literally thousands of people in the same boat(so to speak).

There are some on eBay like this that may be an option

plenty of places out there that sell long blocks ready to go for around $2500. just have to swap everything over to the new block and youre good to go.

I went to this page and entered within 100 miles of 78657, clicking on the "marine" radio button, and found eight companies that installed re-manufactured marine engines:

https://www.jasperengines.com/find-an-installer

I don't know anything about any of them, but if you looked at reviews, picked a few, and talked with them you'd be off to a good start.

Can Google replace them? It's a great tool.
