Re: This bimini is a Pain in the .....

Post by Ytmsn »

When we go out we're in the water so it doesn't matter if its hot in the boat.

You know in the last ten years that we have owned our lake place my wife and I have come to the realization that there are 3 kinds of people that come to the lake to visit.

1. People that want to be AT the water.
2. People that want to be ON the water.
3. People that want to be IN the water.

So for us, we have discovered that by asking what preferences are, we enjoy the weekend much more when folks are there for a visit. We always want IN the water, but when its hot we have had folks set in the boat and never get out. They would much rather ride around and just enjoy the cruise. And for some reason getting into lake water scares some people? Then there are folks (like our parents) that love to come to the lake but they have no interest in getting on the water. They would much rather just sit and watch the other boats go by. Grrr.

Has anybody else experienced that?

Man, that is an excellent summary Ytmsn. Very well said.

I did have a rare chance to experience all three with my in-laws a few years ago where we were AT the water eating....ON the water boating....and IN the water swimming all in one trip. Love those days!

Thanks for the great post. (and since we are mostly IN the water people, the bimini rarely gets used unless we have ON the water people who don't like the heat.)

I've found that my "On the water" guest usually become "In the water" guest shortly if we go out in the heat of the day during summer. I try to discourage them from going out in the heat, but they always say "It'll be cool on the water". Yeah, right.

Beautiful family A7!

We used to be “in the water” boaters when my kids were middle/high schoolers. We towed one of those three passenger hot dog rafts all over the lake.
Now a few years later, unless it’s in the 90’s which really doesn’t happen here, we love opening up that huge Bimini and running the miles and checking out the shorelines. The breeze under that canopy makes life perfect..We can shut the boat down, have some refreshments, turn up the sound and drift for a few miles riding the Niagara current.
Me? If it gets hot next year, I may pack a suit.
