Winterizing

Post by Ytmsn »

A couple of weeks ago I took my 262 in to have it winterized. I have a cabin heater and wasn't quite sure how to winterize that system as I've never had one before, so I wanted to take it to a pro. The guy at the counter told me that they could do it and guarantee the job.

I told him that I usually use the bucket method (5 gallon bucket full of antifreeze, muff on the out drive with a hose to the bucket, start the engine and suck it in) but was leery about the heater. I also have a fresh water tank (empty) and a pump out head I wasn't sure about.

He said they dont do the "bucket thing" nor do they recommend it. He proceeded to tell me they drain the water and pull hoses, then dump antifreeze in each one to get the fluid in the risers and other places that he thinks it needs to be. Course they charge a premium for this service, but hey, its guaranteed, right?

So I leave the boat there and come back that afternoon to pick it up. I talk to the tech that actually did the job and I said "how did you winterize the heater system?"

He said "Oh I use a bucket with a muff on the outdrive and just suck it all up in there". Really? grrr

Here is a link to a video that is a pretty foolproof system. I may do this next year.

Great method, two things

Do not fog your moo engine the way he did. That is the method for a carbuerated which he probably had.

Pull your plugs first to let the raw water out so it doesn’t dilute the antifreeze in the pool. Otherwise not bad.

Using a pump and a pool seems more inconvenient to me, Ytmsn.

I'll stick to connecting my container that contains the 3 gallon mix of antifreeze and hot water directly to the outdrive. Maybe I'm lazy but it is so easy. ..and has worked for the past 23 years down to -25 degrees F below zero in NE PA with no issues.

I stick with the owner of shipyard marina picking up my boat doing the deed and bringing it back to me. Deed done :-)

I just push my boat out of the garage and leave it in the driveway. Mobile marine guy comes by does the deed and leaves me a bill. Then i send him a few of my bills. I dont think I could make it any easier.

You take it to a level I never want to go with our boat!

I call my awesome guy say I'm done for the season, he picks her up and does all necessary maintenance for me and returns her to her home. All while treating her just as I would! I do love knowing I can trust my guy to take care of everything for me!

I like the fact that I have a pro taking responsibility for my baby not have trouble while in storage. I'll get intimate with her while giving her a warm bath, wiping her down and then giving her a nice rub down with the finest wax.😁

Ya, this analogy is getting weird. Let's instead substitute the term "hands-on" for intimate. 😎🚤😎

I don't keep them long enough to get intimate with them :-)
I just treat them with love and give them what they need plus more, rub them down add some oil and put them away wet :-)
It's the best $150 bucks I ever spent. If she breaks in the spring it's not my $10k coming it off my pocket.
That's my warrantee she's waiting for me In the spring to be intimate again.after she realizes I gave her some plastic surgery while she was sleeping for the W :-)

They wanted $150-$200 to winterize for something that takes 10 minutes. Insurance policy covers any freezing.

Took my wife to Ruth's Chris steakhouse instead. Then we got intimate. :D

hands·y
adjectiveinformal
tending to touch other people, typically in a way that is inappropriate or unwanted.

adjective
adjective: intimate
3.

"an intimate knowledge of the software"

I think you will want to stay with intimate in your description.
