1973 cobalt trihull 230 inline 6 shifter

Post by Wreckless1 »

Hello everyone just bought this boat as a fixer upper and I finally got it water ready with the exception of the hand throttle/shifter. The aluminum pot metal that holds the cable has cracked and is moving around. I have searched everywhere I can think of does anyone know where to source one or can anyone point me in the right direction?

I think you have to keep your fingers crossed and check eBay. There are also marine salvage yards around, such as https://salvagemarine.net/ that may be worth reaching out to. I'd have a photo of the part you need handy when reaching out too.

Yeah I have been looking. I was hoping for an aftermarket solution but no luck so far. 🤦🏼‍♂️

.
So glad you found us W1...
Unfortunately I don't know of any aftermarket products in that category. Hopefully someone else here can chime in from that era.

Any pics?

And welcome aboard mate.

Can you post a picture of the shifter where it has cracked and isn’t holding the cable properly? Maybe it can be repaired temporarily to get you on the water?

Shifter issue has been resolved had a local machine shop tig weld the bracket then I added some plate steel to the front face to strengthen it up. It cracked because the previous owner replaced the shifter cable and put it in the wrong spot and was adjusted too tight. 🤦🏼‍♂️
