2023 Cobalt R8 Surf Boat Lift

Post by undercoverVOL »

What are the recommendations for boat lifts? May be pulling the trigger on a 2023 R8 Surf over the weekend.

Currently have a 2008 212 that Im sure the slip and lift will not be compatible with a much larger boat.

Any information you could share TIA

I suggest you get the biggest slip you can afford. We have a 24' boat in a 30' slip and never have to worry about wind or rain.
My thoughts are to find a lift manufacturer that is at least semi-local. Where we are, most people use Ozark Lifts that are made in Mountain Home or Mountain View, Arkansas (I always get them mixed up.)
From all the posts here, I can see several different types of lifts. I've never heard anyone on this site complain about the quality of their lifts.

I would agree, get the biggest slip at least 30 feet for a R8S. are use Ozark lifts, boat in the Missouri area at table rock and Bullshoals lake have used both Ozark lifts and boat floater. Both seem to be really good. The boat floater is plastic enclosure, and the ozark lift is galvanized.

Most boat lifts companies make good quality if they have been around for a while

Most of the newer Qzark lifts are thick plastic tanks. I think they have less problems long term. We've leased and purchased used for 12 years with no problems.

Just wondering what the wait time is. It was over six weeks when we wanted a new one in 2019. That's why I went with a used one at half the price.

Was told about a week or two... im not necessarily in a hurry because our current lift works, everything but the propeller is out of water (trimmed up), and we are trying to move to the new docks at Eden Isle. So if it takes a few weeks and we are able to find a better slip, it'll negate the cost of moving our new lift from current slip to another.

I have my R6 surf sitting in a 35' slip and on an 8800 pound Hydrohoist lift. The lift is big enough for the R8S as well and it does a really great job getting the boat out of the water. I figure I'm probably 7100 pounds with a full tank of gas and gear on the boat so I had to jump up a size in the lift. But like others said, get a lift that can be serviced locally. I had an older lift at our previous marina that was all manual valves with just a vacuum motor on it so servicing was pretty simple. This new lift has 3 buttons on it for "up", "down", and "stop" which may require a service tech if something were to go wrong on it. All in, I like the push button approach. :)

Re: 2022 Cobalt R6 Surf Boat Cable Lift

Post by jbd70 »

I'm about to take delivery of a 2022 R6 Surf and have a cable lift with a beam that goes across the entire stern of the boat and could definitely hit the prop on the forward facing drive. Does anyone know how far up the forward facing drive can tilt up so it is actually above the bottom of the keel line of the boat? Don't want to damage anything..thanks
