Cobalt 220S $

Post by Fun2Fish »

Hello,

I'm not a current cobalt owner but have had a 220 and 226 before in the early 2000s. I've visited a couple dealers looking to order a new 2018 220S. Would anyone care to share how much off the MSRP is a fair deal on one of these new rigs? Don't want to come here and ask what somebody paid, just trying to get an idea on a fair deal.

Thanks in advance!

Don't know how valid this is, but it might give you another reference point. I have not used it.

Hey Fun2Fish. Welcome to the Cobalt Chat forum. So glad you found us!!! 8-)

Much will depend on how you option this boat out. Engine size and wake tower can make quite a difference in price. Also trailer vs no trailer, etc.

Here is a link to new and some used 220S models from 2015-2018 which may be used to help in pricing as well as to help in making an informed decision. The website provided earlier is also a great resource.

Once again. Welcome aboard. Hope you can stay awhile. Looking forward to future pics of a 220S in your driveway!

Fun2fish, some dealers don’t discount much at all, and others will drop 20% or more off list price (especially in early winter). If you can’t find one you like i’m a couple states away in MN and can connect you with a good one.

I'm not sure with franchise rights if you can buy 2018 from another dealer. If you buy a left over then it prob won't matter who you buy it from.
By the way welcome from Wisconsin.
I'm a 220 fan.

AsLan7 thanks for the welcome! I've been researching for a while so won't be long and I'll hopefully have one ordered.

Engine and sound are the most important to me, along with flooring and a trailer.

Been eyeing a 2017 220S with 300hp W/EVC $66,0000 but it's blue and I like the shale grey. Was quoted $72,000 for a 2018 out the door (probably could negotiate a bit more). Tempted to get the 350hp.

Thanks again all.

For those I sent individual messages to, oops!

GET THE 350HP! You will never regret having the larger (or largest) engine. ....and send us pics when you do. :D :D :D

I'm not sure I would get the 350. I would prob go with the 250.
Why would you want a larger engine. Doesn't make sense to me.
Can't wait to hear the options you go with. At least you will beat the show orders.

Go with the 350hp. It will cost you more (the Merc is less $ than the Volvo). Both are duel prop drives. Volvo is all aluminum block with closed cooling, variable valve timing and direct fuel injection. If you're on salt water, I would go with the closed cooling Volvo. And certainly don't worry about fuel consumption. Remember this is a boat!
In my "humble opinion", you can never have enough power. My previous boat was 65 mph plus and my 2017 220S with the 6.2L 350 hp Merc Bravo 3 is a 53mph boat at 2900' elevation on freshwater lake. I miss the top end speed, but 53 mph is not bad. Am having a little cup added to the rear 3 blade prop as I have plenty of WOT. The cup shouldn't sacrifice much of my hole shot. I'll post results next Summer, as my Baby has been put to bed here in NW Montana. Regarding a good deal, go with your local Cobalt dealer. Depending on options, expect to pay $68,000 to $78,000 with trailer.

Even though I got a lower horsepower motor, I ended up with a V8 in a 210 because it had better cruising fuel efficiency and better torque (faster to plane) with the duo prop than the other options.

Not sure how often I'd ever go 65mph, but it seems like I'm putting gas in all the time. In short, think about how you'll use it while deciding on the engine - it's not easy to change your mind.
