2021 Volvo 380 Oil Capacity and Specs

Post by Howl Yes 242 »

Am I missing something or does the manual just not cover the oil requirements that well? No oil weight. No filter part numbers. No oil capacity info. The only thing I see is it says the V8 has 7.5qts. I am not super comfortable with that little information.

Are you looking at the Cobalt manual or the Volvo manual?

Volvo often prints things like filter part number on a little sticker on top of the engine cover. As Krob was alluding to, the Cobalt manual doesn't say much about the engine but the boat should come with a separate engine manual from Volvo that gives a lot more detail.

Volvo will happily sell you their own oil, but recommends a catalytic converter-safe 10w-40. Lots of us use Mobil 1 15w-50, and there's some evidence out there that Volvo's 10W-40 they recommend in the US is rebranded Amsoil and in the rest of the world they rebrand Mobil 1 15W-50 Extended Performance

I have the actual VP manual. It states 7.5qts. It does not give any part numbers for the filters, etc. nor does it indicate oil weight. I will check the sticker on the coolant expansion tank next time I am out to see what details it might display.

Ok, assuming you have the V8-380 6.0L from 2013, there should be a sticker on the plastic engine cover, as shown in the photo attached and indicated by the yellow arrow. This should tell you part numbers for common replacement items for the engine.

My guess is the parts will be similar to the parts list at https://marinepartseurope.com/en/dealer ... C%20V8-430

Thanks for updating your signature. Yep, the coolant tank has the same sticker on the 6.2l, on the front of the engine. Oil spec is going to be a synthetic oil that is catalytic converter-safe. If you reach out to them directly, 10w-40 is their standard recommendation, but they used to use a straight 30 weight oil and many use 15w-50 with good results.

I found the sticker and pulled everything thing I need except confirmation of oil capacity. I’ll roll with 7.5qts.

I just changed oil in a 2019 Volvo 300 with a stated oil capacity of 7.5 quarts. Sucked out 5 maybe 6 quarts at best and then over filled it slightly.
