My presentation
Hi everyone, Shane here from Dublin, Ireland. I've been a Cobalt owner for about 6 years now started with a 2012 Cobalt 200 that I kept on the Solent near Portsmouth, and upgraded to a 2018 220S when we moved to Dublin two years ago. The 220S is a trailer boat so I tow it with my Touareg gives me the flexibility to explore different lakes and coastal spots around Ireland, which has been brilliant. Its beam is right around the threshold where wide-load rules can kick in here, so worth checking your local requirements before you assume it's a straightforward tow. Moving the boat over from the UK wasn't entirely hassle-free either, to be fair with Brexit there's a VAT angle to sort out depending on when and how the boat's status was established, so don't assume that side is automatically simple. But it was registering the tow vehicle in Ireland that was the real headache. VRT, NOx levy, OMSP valuations... the whole import process is a maze if you've never done it before. I ended up using one of the VRT calculators available online, which saved me a lot of guesswork and helped me budget properly before committing. I've been lurking on the forum for a while and finally decided to join properly there's a wealth of knowledge here and it's been great reading through the threads. Looking forward to contributing, especially from the perspective of a Cobalt owner on this side of the Atlantic!

Re: My presentation
Welcome aboard, Shane. Great to have another Ireland-based Cobalt owner here, and the 220S sounds like a really practical setup for exploring different waters. Trailer boating does open up so many options, but you’re right that the paperwork and towing rules can catch people out if they assume it’s all straightforward.ShaneK wrote: Hi everyone, Shane here from Dublin, Ireland. The 220S is a trailer boat, so I tow it with my Touareg, which gives me the flexibility to explore different lakes and coastal spots around Ireland. That has probably been one of the biggest advantages of the move. Its beam is right around the point where wide-load rules can start to matter here, so it is definitely worth checking local requirements before assuming towing is straightforward. Moving the boat over from the UK was not entirely hassle-free either. With Brexit, there can be VAT considerations depending on when and how the boat's status was established. Registering the tow vehicle in Ireland was the real headache, though. VRT, NOx levy, OMSP valuations, and the whole import process can be confusing if you have never dealt with it before. After enough time comparing rules and calculations, I sometimes switch to something completely different like https://fezbet-de.de/ fezbet casino, where slots vary by theme, visuals, and mechanics while live games have a different pace and presentation. I've been lurking here for a while, so I finally decided to join properly and hopefully contribute from the perspective of a Cobalt owner on this side of the Atlantic.
Your note about VAT, VRT and wide-load thresholds is useful for anyone moving boats or tow vehicles between the UK and Ireland. Feel free to share photos of the 220S and some of the places you’ve been boating around Ireland — always good to see how these boats are used in different parts of the world.
