Will Malibu be a good custodian of the Cobalt Brand??

Post by gdane »

To early to tell. Your thoughts?? But wow Malibu has some awesome power options.
Take the 6.2L 510 HP option! Light weight and powerful.
I'm not a mechanic but wouldn't this power plant would work wonders? No?

I think Malibu will keep Cobalt distinct from their own boats by focusing on bigger, heavier, "family" boats rather than the dedicated watersports boats Malibu is known for. Smart way of owning a bigger slice of the boating market, and hopefully sharing some technology and know-how.

I'm hoping through shared technology they can improve upon the surf models they have now. Not saying they are bad, by all accounts they perform very well but there is always room for improvement and since this is Cobalts first foray into that market it makes sense that improvements are to come.

.
Discussed in this thread a little bit....
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=506&p=5811&hilit=cobu#p5811

BLUF...
Sad to see a family owned operation get bought out.
However, Malibu is a very well run organization and also has an exceptional product. In the end, the synergy & savings created by this buyout from "CoBu's" :D economies of scale will be a great model going forward while at the same time using the respective strengths of each brand identity to create an even better product on both sides for the consumer. Win-Win. 8-)

My sources tell me they will be alone. Cobalt gets Malibu’s marketing expertise and the surf gate on their surf boats. The surf gate is already being tested. On the Malibu’s they are taking the flip down step.

I do business with Cobalt. The marina I go to is a Cobalt dealer and just stopped selling Malibu a few years ago because they are also a Nautique dealer and they wanted to focus on just the two. This weekend at the boat show I was able to speak to my dealer who was there as well as a rep from the Malibu factory at the Malibu booth.

If I were to pick a company to buy Cobalt, I would want Malibu...walk thru and boat show and compare boat after boat...our opinion was that the only boat manufacturer that was in same category as Cobalt was Malibu...the same attention to detail that we all know and love in our Cobalts was evident when looking at Malibu. Stitching in the seats, a clean high end looking dash, use of space...all comparable across the two boats.

I wouldn't think the quality we are used to seeing will suffer...just a good blend of each boat's strength will carryover to the other.
