Best Anchor for 2017 WSS R3 Surf
Best Anchor for 2017 WSS R3 Surf
Taking delivery in May and wondered if anyone has suggestion regarding anchors for the WSS R3 Surf. Something that fits well in the anchor locker up front and is of the appropriate weight. Thanks.

What kind of conditions will you be in? A rocky bottom and sandy or mucky bottom can be pretty different, and lake boating on a nice day is different from anchoring in a river or in rougher weather.
I'm a fair weather boater and like my Richter anchor (http://greenfieldproducts.com/anchors/richter-anchors) for Minnesota lakes, but I'd use a traditional fluke anchor if fishing a river or anchoring off the coast (http://fortressanchors.com/anchors/guardian). Either way, consider using several feet (6-10 minimum) of chain to attach the anchor to your rope, to provide weight for the anchor to bite and to provide some abrasion resistance near the bottom.

I've used almost every style of anchor and I gut one of these in one of the boats I bought and love it. If I'm in shallow water I just use my little mushroom anchors.
This one is compact and fits up front no problem.
Oh congrats on the new boat. Pictures that is the boat I would get next.

I carry two - a stainless grapnel style anchor (folds up) that fits in the front anchor hatch. I use this one almost exclusively as it is easy to deploy and store.
My "real" anchor is a Fortress 7 that I keep in the port compartment under the front seat (the one that lifts up). The Fortress is aluminum and highly regarded. I have 12' of rode just in case I need serious holding power.
