Bravo 3 prop selection

Post by Jklucka »

I have a 2003 240 with the 6.2 MPI. I'm currently running a Bravo 3, gear ratio 2.20 with a 26p 3 blade on inner & outer prop. I've noticed my WOT is only around 4200 at 55 MPH (GPS). The recommended WOT RPM range for this engine is 4800-5200. Curious what props other people are running with similar setups? I've noticed other bravo 3's at my marina running a 4 blade inner and 3 blade outer. What will this accomplish? My boat is clearing over propped. I'm more interested in top speed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on calling BBlades props next week to hear their recommendation.

Well the problem you nave is wanting to speed and rpm at the same time. More pitch less rpm. If your tach is reading right you need a 24p or 22p.
The 4 3 will get you a better hole shot.
I'm not sure your tach is accurate. That's a pretty good speed for that boat already. It's that a GPS or dash speed? Brett at Bblades is a good guy.

I just had the factory fix my tach, its my assumption its accurate. Given the noise the engine produces it doesn't sound like its anywhere near the top end of its RPM range. The speed is GPS.

If the tach was just repaired I’d lean towards an error in that process. 55-57 at 4800 rpm is right on the money for that boat, and a B3 hits a wall at 60mph so I wouldn’t mess with it if hole shot is acceptable. Best thing you can do is have BBlades repair, balance, and polish your props. I picked up 2 mph from that alone.

Thanks for your response. Is it worth the money to upgrade to SS props? I'm running the stock aluminum.

B3 should already be stainless.

My props are not stainless. Perhaps the previous owner replaced them.
