Lake Lanier

Post by Snowman73 »

Considering a potential move from Chicago to Lake Lanier. Anyone currently on/or from this area in the past? Thoughts on the lake with an R5? How is the area surrounding the lake? Are there plentiful jobs in the Gainesville area? Looking forward to the responses.

No one in the Southeast section?

Maybe a post in the general section may get a response.

I have family north of Atlanta, and have heard Lanier is a fun Lake. From fast to fish they cover it all. And Gainesville along with Buford are some great areas.

Share what you hear Snowman!

Yes and I thought they're were some guys on here from Lanier too. I don't think you will have any issues with tn he r5 on that lake though. I would run my 220 there any day. I can't imagine it much diff then TRL.
When are you moving. Are you moving because of work?

We boat on the south end of Lanier in an R5. Love it. South end can get rough on busy weekends, so sometimes you have to take it a bit slow. Not sure about jobs in the Gainesville area - probably depends on what kind of work you are looking for.

Second that. Our R5 Surf is perfect on Lanier. Agreed that the south end can get a little busy but the R5 handles it infinitely better than our old 19’ sea ray.

Hey HG. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

Any pics of your R5 Surf? 🏄 What ya ’got in her...380 or 430?

Feel free to start an intro thread. We love them here especially if you got any pics to share. Just can’t get enough. How about a pic of your old Sea Ray?

Again welcome aboard mate!

We looked at a few boats on Lake Lanier early last year before purchasing new. It looked like a pretty fun lake with lots of places to go and things to do. I didn't see too much as I only tested two boats. We also went to Altuna, just a little west of Atlanta on the north side. I got to see some of the places where they filmed "Ozark" on Netflix.

I just purchased a 2018 R5 on lake Lanier. I live in Oakwood. Let’s hook up and I’ll be more than happy to introduce you to friends on the water. I’m second guessing my R5 over r7 but this post made me feel much better!

Funny you post that Snowman---we are also looking at relocating to the Lanier area. It's a big lake and property on the lake is expensive. I have the R3 and have been told everything from it will be fine to don't get on the lake with anything less than a 50ft crusier. Gainesville is on the north end of the lake which seems to be quieter. In looking at property, I saw everything from 20ft pontoons to 75ft houseboats. It's all over the place.
