Cherish your animals.

Post by Tuscany »

I think some of you know that we have two Yorkies. Brother and sister. This past winter, Gracie was diagnosed with a Mast cell tumor on her face which is inoperable. Just devastating news to us. Her younger brother Rocco has always had her back. Rocco has been developing cataracts, and today was his day to get it fixed, and finally see 3D again.
The Dr. called us earlier today to say that Rocco died on the table. No one even thought this was even a possibility today.
I can puke right now, and my wife, well.. both of us are just sick.

Everyone’s animal is special. Rocco’s specialty was his need to be with my wife. He followed her constantly, and was my buddy at night watching TV. He needed to be next to us at all times, and I could always mention the word hockey or football, and he was in the chair waiting. Probable knowing that it only meant he was going to get his tummy rubbed for 2 hours straight.
I’m not sure why I’m even posting this, other than there is s hole in my heart right now, and I guess I need to talk about it. I’m sure Gracie won’t last long now without her brother.
What a day.😢

Tuscany, so sorry - pets are family members for sure. Hope you're able to look back at all the good times and all you've done for him and be comforted by all the fond memories.

Thanks guys and girl. We know we’re going to lose Gracie soon. This just came out of left field with Rocco. No one saw this coming. Pre-tests were all fine. We were thinking were being proactive and fixing an issue so he could enjoy life and have a few more really good years with clear sight. The eye specialists said she’s lost 3 dogs in her 23 years.
Just sucks.

Sorry for your loss T. You know a pet hits the jackpot when they end up in a family that loves, appreciates, and cares for them. For so many that's not the case. Be thankful for all the love you shared and that you were able to make his life happy while you had him.

Sorry for your loss. I thought I'd pass this on

Lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
His gentle head upon my knee
And share his silent thoughts with me.
He'll come no longer to my call,
Retrieve no more his favorite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called him to His golden throne.
And though my eyes are filled with tears,
I thank Him for the happy years
He let him spend down here with me,
And for his love and loyalty

Bfun220, that’s a wonderful poem. Brought a tear to my eye. 😢

...and so sorry for your loss of Rocco, T.
I think the good Lord put dogs on this planet to demonstrate what unconditional love looks like. I’m sure Rocco was (and Gracie is) a fine example of that.

Very special forum here that allows us to open up with each other. When one part of the body hurts, we all hurt.

Praying for comfort and grace my friend. :|

Sorry for the loss of your loved one. They don't live as long as we'd like by our side, but they live forever in our hearts.

Tusc I'm sorry buddy, what terrible news to get. Dogs are special animals, nothing else like them in the world. We lost one of ours unexpectedly several years ago, he was my wife's baby. We have another one who I don't expect to be around much longer. I feel for you and your family...they leave a huge hole when they go :(

Thanks guys. Thanks so much for understanding, and thanks for letting me vent. I’m not in the mood to leave the house tonight or go over to the store.

My head feels like it’s going to explode. I feel so bad for Wendy. This was our dog, but really her dog, and she was his world. Everything we ever did around this house, he was two feet behind. He would just stare at her with a love that’s hard to explain. He would growl every night when I came to bed. I mean growl and bark at me. Every freaking night, (unless I told that nut case there was a hockey game on) and I’ve never heard him ever show nothing but love for her in 11 years. I’d push him over and after about ten minutes, he would settle down, come back to his senses and go to sleep. Just super protective of her. I’m going to miss that.

I was out when the call came, and I didn’t carry my cell which made it twice as difficult to process for my wife. I feel so bad. My son was the first one home and he said that he thought she was going to have a heart attack.
We were in Florida for a week, and then she flew direct to Philly for a friends 60th party. Her return flight was cancelled yesterday, and her flight didn’t land until after I dropped Rocco off at the Dr. in Buffalo, so she never got to see him.

So sorry for your loss T. I’m sad and a little teary eyed reading this thread as a fellow pet lover. I sometimes even share a pillow at night with my little border collie.

My wife and I volunteer and make donations to stray rescue all the time. I will make a donation in Rocco’s honor. And will keep you and your family in our prayers

I read the title and said oh no I don't want to read this. I scrolled to the bottom to the start of your thread and just said oh no it wasn't Gracie. I was thinking what's Rocco going to do without her. Then the twist. I feel for your family. I really feel for Wendy and Gracie.

Bfun that's was a great poem.
No other words T but your extended family is here for you.
