That's a lot of weight to pivot behind the back axle, its only a 145in wheelbase, so would end up with a pretty light front end.
Mine is 600# measured with my Sherline scale with no fuel.

That's why I have a weight distributing hitch!

Makes sense. We are right at 525 and for as little a we tow I just run it as is. I can say if we were closer to 700 or 750 I would be looking at a larger truck instead of dealing w/ hooking up a WDH each time we went to the ramp. Just my preference.

We were right at my old truck’s carrying capacity, and I DO trailer the boat a lot. That’s why I went up to a 2500. Lots and lots of reserve now.

We have a travel trailer too that is even heavier although it has an electric tongue jack. I use an Equilizer E4 hitch so its simple.

I think that tongue weight rating for the F-150 is incorrect as my Lincoln is 600 lbs (without load distributing - 840 with) and I'd expect the pickup to be at least equal if not more.

My Lincoln has the HD Tow package - maybe the F-150 you quoted doesn't?

It's what the hitch is rated for. May also depend on how it mounts to the frame which could be the difference. I know I looked into a higher rated hitch and it required it to be welded to the frame. That's one of the reason I opted for a WDH besides the obvious issue of transferring weight back to the front axle.

One of life's great mysteries. Every F150 is rated to 500/5000lbs weight carrying. Doesn't matter if its max tow or not, or what wheel base it is, or what bed length it is, they are all 500/5000. The weight distribution rating does vary based on truck configuration however. Think mine is 1,000/10,000 with weight distribution but I would need to go check.

Its a very highly debated topic on the F150 forums. The general thinking is Ford was too lazy to rate each truck configuration, and just slapped 500/5000 on everything. It was made even more confusing when the Ranger was rated to 750/7500. Ford Marketing also loves to post up videos of shiny new F150's towing 27ft boats without weight distribution on the trailer, so yeah its an odd deal.

Most people that tow boats end up over the 500/5000lb rating, I mean we are at 525 on the tongue and maybe 6000 - 6250 overall weight. My thinking is if the hitch can handle 1,100lb with weight distribution which puts all kinds of weird forces on the receiver 6250 shouldn't be an issue. Personal choice though as we are technically over the rated capacity of the hitch.

If you looked at how the forces are applied to the recever with a WDH, the weight is more even across the mounting points of the hitch. That is why they can carry more.

Particularly odd since the Lincoln docs say 600!

2017 Expedition trailer doc says 600 tongue/6000 or 920/9200lbs for WDH on EL or 930/9300 for standard expedition.

After owning our X7 M50i for a few weeks, we finally were able to put her through some towing trials in a vacant parking lot and on steep hills to get to experience some of its capabilities and quirks.

With almost 100 more horses over our previous vehicle and 553 foot pounds of torque at 1800 rpm, I’m happy to report she pulls and stops like a champ 👌🏻

The one quirk we don’t like is not being able to open the rear hatch automatically. Can only do it manually if the boat trailer is attached. :(
