I need to replace a burnt out docking light on my 2005 220. How do I get to that bulb? Will I need to special order the bulb or is that something I can get from the auto parts store ?

Change it to a led. Nope unscrew it from the outside. Pay attention to the screws. They are diff lengths. Then with a needle nose remove the spring. Next remove the bulb. Reverse to install. Bfun found the perfect bulb.

+1 above...couldn’t have said it better myself....except be patient with those springs...they can be tricky to undo and reattach if not careful. 👌🏻

Only thing I’ll add is if you convert one side to LED, might want to do the other side at the same time so the color and brightness match.

Is the MR-16 bulb correct for all Cobalt docking lights? (2008 272?).

Any problem with installing the brighter 60-watt equivalent MR-16?

Part Number: MR16D-NW7-40

The bulbs aren't very expensive... looks like a pretty simple upgrade.

Thanks for the replies.

My boat is at the shop being summarized, having the trim fixed (it was intermittent last couple times out) and then then a new tension pulley being put in. He text'd and said the light was out and asked if I wanted it repaired. I said not to worry about it because I assumed he was charging me to change a bulb - which I think I should be able to do myself. However, he just fixed it free of charge so ... lol I guess I'm good to go!!

Thanks for helping me!!

Yes I'm sure you can go brighter. I'll look at my box to see what it is. The one I posted is what bfun used. This was mine.
Don't buy this bulb though. Just the wattage.

Just remove your old bulb and check its dimensions. Then buy a LED bulb the same size in whatever wattage you prefer. With LED's using much less current and almost no heat going up in brightness should not be a problem.

OK, thank you. Put the above bulb in, looks great.. brighter, whiter light.
The port side is the LED bulb, startboard is the old bulb. The difference
is greater to the eye than it shows up in the picture.

Neither was burned out.. just thought for less than $10 for 2 bulbs, this was an upgrade
(or preventave maintenance) worth doing. Yes, did both. Just wanted to see the
relative brightness difference, and that's when I took the pic.

The hook on the retention spring was tricky.. didn't figure that out for about 5 minutes.
