Discoloring

Post by TruckerTim »

Finally got some time to get to a few projects since the purchase in May, due to the crappy weather.

Pulled the cover off this morning and on both corners by the hull there is a yellowish discoloration. Not sure the pics show it that well but it actually looks worse live. Almost looks like heat was applied but no way that could have happened. It’s been in climate controlled storage for two weeks.... Ideas??

Rub rail?
It’s not fiberglass so it should clean. I’m guessing the cover may be transferring something.
About the only time I use Magic Eraser is on the white rub rails.

I thought that at first but the cover does touch the top part but not the bottom. The cover goes all the way back over the swim platform.

Unless it got some uv? Clean it.. wax it with a silicone wax and let’s see what happens.
Plastics are strange as I have a dock that I used two rolls of white edging to trim it.
One roll gets mildewed and the other doesn’t. Same part numbers.. same sun exposers? Hopefully yours will calm after clean and wax.

if you're from Birmingham is it because you put your boat in the Warrior? Hahahaha

Wish I could blame that on the Warrior. Then I’d know what caused so I can prevent it from continuing. I’m a 18 year vet of your beautiful Smith Lake!!

Awesome! I'm looking to buy on the lake but for now commute up from Hueytown. Keep the boat at Duskin Point Marina. Maybe we'll cross paths some day!

Just sold my place up there a few months ago, (that's how I could afford a new Cobalt!) and I'm trailering from Hoover.

Update- Dealer and Cobalt rep have no idea what is causing this. Tried several cleaners, including Magic Eraser... Noting touches it. Waiting on instructions from Cobalt.

Yes, that is strange for sure. Sounds like a new rubrail is in your future.

Nope... But in fairness I told my dealer, (in AL) the boat would be in FL until late Nov so not in a big hurry. Hard to believe they've never seen anything like it... Don't mind being first at some things, but not things like this!
