I would agree with that... I have a friend that purchased in 2021 just before they implemented the surcharges and he got 27% off MSRP. I still think you could do better than %14 unless you are on the east or west coast in that case I have no idea. But in the mid west I think 20-25% is still attainable. Keep in mind I'm not an expert nor do I claim to be, just a guy that has purchased my fair share of new boats.

Re: Purchasing Discounts
Dealer has roughly 41-43% of mark up to work with.
Allotment is having a major impact now, and a dealer must profit more on less available boats.
I sure am glad I bought new in 17’. Those good old day prices are probably gone until he next market crash.

Re: Purchasing Discounts
Driving by our dealer last weekend, I noticed their lot was FULL of boats. Lots of pontoons and wake boats. Things have really changed. One time when I drove by a couple of years ago, I literally thought they had gone out of business as the lot was empty.

Re: Purchasing Discounts
Similar situation in Arkansas. I'd drive by our local broker and not see the same boats that were there the previous weekend.
Once the dealer had a few new boats, and they were gone the next day.

Re: Purchasing Discounts
I agree with the above, which means the dealer cost is SRP - 30%. So with a 20% discount on a $250,000 surf model, the dealer would be grossing $25,000. I guess the discount depends on how many sales the dealer can make and how many boats he can get. If the supply exceeds the demand, why not make the deal. Having said that, the best I could do was 18% in 2019 combined with an aggressive trade in value for my 1 year old boat and some options passed along at dealer cost. I'm hoping to meet that deal (or exceed it this time around, but who knows). I wonder if my boat value is dropping on the used market due to increased interest rates and no factory financing option on a used boat?

Re: Purchasing Discounts
This is an interesting video about the current state of the boat market. I think the premium prices for used boats is starting to change. It seems to be mimicking the auto market. Used supply has increased so prices are dropping. New availability is still tighter, but manufacturing costs are also still high so it seems like they aren’t discounting like crazy. The discounts I saw for new 2023 Cobalts right now at less than half of what they were in October. I expected the discounts to be more now, because the economy is weakening.
Anyway, this guy is an ex-boat salesman. The data he uses is interesting.

Re: Purchasing Discounts
Reviving this thread. My dealer has a build slot in December for January delivery. The discount is better than on my 2019 R3, dealer offering around 24.5% and the same trade value for my 95 hour R3 as I was offered 18 months ago (it had 70 hours then). I wonder if with higher interest rates, consumer demand is starting to soften. I'm going to test drive a used R6 next week (VP380). I'm mostly interested in how the new hull handles and the boat performs with the extra 1,200 pounds. My R3 VP350 has a time to plane of 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 55 mph. The 2024 R6 with a VP380 has a top speed of 54.8 and a time to plane off 4.1 seconds. I'm waiting to see how much slower the boat feels with the 1 second difference to plane.

Re: Purchasing Discounts
My dealer is advertising "BIG DISCOUNTS" what ever that means... I do know they have a full lot, including a 2022 R6 Surf my friend is trying to sell and it's been on the lot for about a year now.

Damn Bob. Don't you use your boat? Our 2019 R3 is approaching 260 hours.BobRae99 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 5:54 pm Reviving this thread. My dealer has a build slot in December for January delivery. Purchased a very lightly used R6 Surf (25 hrs) that listed for $240,000 for $179,995. Have had it for about 45 days so far so good.

Re: Purchasing Discounts
We have a short season where I boat. Our R3 goes in the water mid June and comes out mid September. So we use it around 10 weekends. We tend to ski for an hour each day and spend a lot of time on it floating and visiting. Plus a friend in our social group has a surf boat so we spend time on that boat.Krob1114 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2023 6:56 amDamn Bob. Don't you use your boat? I’m going for a sea trial (water test) of an R6 with VP380 this week. My dealer has a build slot so it has me thinking….

So your discount % for slightly used is about what my dealer is offering me on a 2024 factory order.

Re: Purchasing Discounts
The positive side is 25 hours is like new and you didn't have to wait for a boat to be built for you. there is value in that, no doubt. And, deals vary from place to place and mite to time. Enjoy your new boat!
