HD TV ANTENNA

Post by cjlaskew »

Hi all,

we have a 2018 Cobalt A40 and have trouble picking up local tv stations when we do a scan on the TV. I was thinking of getting a HD TV Antenna and connecting it to the coax connection that is found on the rear /starboard side.

Any views on whether this would help please?

Thanks,

Chris

Hey Chris. Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

That's one of the bigger Cobalts we have on the site. Any pictures of your yacht?

An HD antenna is a great piece but does have it's limitations. They are line of sight so the higher you mount them free from obstructions the better the reception will be. The signal can degrade if splitting off to multiple TV's. Then you may need to amplify this weaker signal to receive a quality broadcast. It sounds like you will only be using it for one TV so this should not be an issue.

Make sure your TV has a digital tuner (normally TV's built after 2007 have this) so you can receive the digital broadcast.

Others will soon chime in with their experience. Again, welcome aboard mate!

There are marine-specific antennas that are weather resistant and don't cause much drag, like:

I'd look at something like that - it's sure to be a big improvement. Keep us posted on your install and how it works out!

Myself I would make sure the TV you have can do mirroring from your phone and your phone can send it also. Streaming is the way. Cable will be gone soon.
Get Hulu or what ever on your phone and stream it. Get a unlimited data plan.

Unless you have an "unlimited" high speed data plan, wouldn't the data costs start adding up (typically about 1.5gb/hour of streaming)?

It's streaming to an A40 that seems impractical, and not cable?
