Heber Springs, AR 2004 Cobalt 262

Post by Lancer308 »

Bought this boat several years back from Tampa area. Shipped on a 18 wheeler trailer to the lake. No trailer. Space in marina slot came with Ozark Boat lift that fits my boat perfectly. Looking to restore wood steering wheel, replace wood dash, glove box and panels with technographic panels. Will also replace the sunbrella top on the bat wings.
Will get the exact measurements for the boat cushion fillers for back area and walk through on the back seats. These seem to be head scratchers for some but I would like to contribute with my updates, how to’s and prices options to help others.

Welcome from Oklahoma and a fellow 262 owner!
There are several options for a new wheel, and I found the OEM manufacturer of the dash panels, buts they're crazy high.
Some members here have done vinyl wrap but then you lose the letttering.
I'm getting my upholstery done now and can make a couple suggestions there as well.
It will be interesting to watch what you do with your boat!

Hey L308, welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!....and yeeeeeeHawwwww. Another 260 series owner. My personal fave. :D

Yes, please post more pics as you progress. Can't get enough here.

We have owned a 2002 262 and now a 2005 263. Amazing machines.

It looks like your transom shower head is missing. Is it tucked in there too deep?

Again, welcome aboard mate!

Hey everyone. It’s me the lancer308 but I had to switch to lancer328 as my username. I studied the dash and the back side. Actually there is two way to access the behind the dash. One, underneath the dash, the other is lifting front seat rear back and there is a rather large opening. I am only going to replace the most worn two parts since the gauge dash is fine looking. Buying the replacements from technographic. Got lucky and found a practically new cobalt steering wheel for $250. I had been looking for months. Pics on next post.

Here are the pics of the dash. Replacing glove board and the two pieces beside the steering wheel. Dash analog gauges are actually not bad or cracked wood look.

So here is what the back looks like. Just a few bolts hold it in per piece. Wiring will need to be labeled but all in all, it looks to be a straightforward disconnect and connect if taking your time but well worth it.

Ok so I got really lucky on eBay, bought this steering wheel, completely matched the bolt slots. $200 range was nice and huge aesthetically for my boat.

Theory of the highly coveted back cushions that are hard to find. I think that the cushions usually get removed, worn prematurely and probably tossed. It is a high traffic area to go from mid boat area to the back without obstacles. Needless to say, I will look at machining something that will be durable but easy to stow away. The back lay out pad in the middle, I was thinking of making this in two pieces that ultimately look like one piece when together. That was it can be stowed away when not in use in multiple areas with ease.

I have some ideas. Probably the most susceptible cushion that is damaged during high traffic areas. Looking a building something that matches perfectly but withholds wear and tear.

Looking forward to seeing the progress. We still have our 282 inserts in the factory bags . Unused it appears so I’m not even gonna break em out

Are the 282 inserts similar to the 262 inserts?

Slightly taller and longer....as this was explored to see options out there for folks with 260 series.

I had the filler cushions on my old 262 and I let my dock neighbor that has a 262 use them for templates to make a set for them. I can see if they still have the measurements if you would like? They used a shop in Ozark, MO to do the fillers so could possibly get their info as well.
