The service manual for my 5.7L penta says to refill with fresh GL-5 synthetic gear lubricant or mobilube 1 shc 75w-90 (meeting or exceeding MIL-L-2105C or D, API GL-4 or GL-5). While Mobil 1 75w-90 meets GL5, the Mobilube was a similar full synthetic with no limited slip additive - now replaced by Mobil Delvac Synthetic 75w-90.

Looks like I'll use the Mobil Delvac Synthetic 75w-90 for the first lower unit change.

Have you had the boat out with this oil yet. Mine won't need changing till the end of the year but that's prob the lube I would switch too ofc I don't go Volvo. It Doesnt sound like the drive is too fussy on this lube.

Yep, I can't say I notice any difference though. Mobil oils have a pretty impeccable reputation, and I like being able to use parts and materials that I can find most anywhere.

That's what I wanted to know. Can't go wrong with any Mobil product for sure.

I'm going to switch over to BG gear lube this year. I'll report on it next spring. My rep put it in his Merc Alpha drive and it took the clunk out of it. He had a merc tech drive his boat and he couldn't believe how it shifted. My forward is really Smooth but reverse not as nice. My 222 is smooth in both directions. Also I'm going to change this oring on the drain bolt. #15
