fluid transfer pump for VP outdrive

Post by sailor55330 »

What fluid transfer pump are y'all using on the VP drives? I know it needs to thread in, but every one I've seen on amazon seems to clearly say "doesn't work with VP". What size is the threaded fill hole?

Thanks

The older DP-SM drives used a different thread. I am pretty sure the newer Volvo Duo Props use the same thread as mercruiser and anything else these days.

I had the older drive on my other boat so I had the special adapter.

Sailor I use the good ole cheap pump you buy from Walmart. I cut off the 2 plastic ears on the part that threads in. They hit the housing. Also make sure you get new orings for the drain plug and dipstick. If the oil is cold when you drain it just drain it in a bucket over night.

I just search around for the best price and buy enough for 5 years on all the o-rings including the one between the drive and the pivot housing. I remove my drive yearly so I need that one for every year too.

I also stick with OEM ones and avoid the aftermarket ones.

I use volvopentastore.com to determine part numbers. You can also order from them as well but they are a bit more expensive.

Yes get oem ones. They normally seem them in a set of 3. Dipstick, mid plug that most don't remove and the drain. I think I get mine from marine parts unlimited. On ebay.
