New Member - 2012 242 in KC

Post by Tandjmei8 »

In the process of finalizing the purchase and then will have to get it down to KC, but happy to say I have my first Cobalt. Did most of my boating out in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho with wife and 6 kids - started with a Bayliner 175, then a pontoon fishing boat, a Yamaha 242 Limited S, and a Malibu 24 MXZ, then moved to NC and boated on Lake Norman with a Malibu 23 LSV. We moved to KC at the end of 2020 and I went through 2021 without a boat. Looking forward to trailering around the lakes in Missouri and checking out some new places.

Good to be here! Out of the gates, I’m going to switch over the carpet and change out the back SeaDek - going to Gator Step for all of it. Would like to switch the stereo over to JL , but may wait to see how this one performs. Engine is a Volvo Penta 5.7 - there weren’t any 8.1’s on the market, but I’m confident I’ll be plenty happy with the 5.7. Now…just got to get through a few more months.

Classic Cobalt colors and lines.
Pretty sharp wheels on the trailer too.
I never saw a 242 look that nice when we were shopping; if we had, we'd be in a 242 now.
Welcome.

I don’t have a whole lot that are worth sharing yet. I actually bought it sight unseen, but reviewed detailed pics and video with the sales person, plus service records and inspection, in addition to a hundred questions. I did this with my last Malibu also and it worked well. Here’s a couple pics of the boat from the dealer site(they’ve removed them) and then what I think I’m going to do for flooring…

Welcome from Smithville. Congrats on your purchase, super nice looking 242. We put GatorStep on our 250 and been very happy with it. Maybe we'll see you on Smithville Lake this next season.

Thanks for sharing the pic! I know the GS will be a nice upgrade to the boat, so I’m looking forward to it. I’ll be keeping the boat on the east side of the lake for storage and will definitely hit Smithville some, then take it out to the lakes east of us other times.

We boat up at Smithville mostly, of course we will make the trek down to table rock two or three times a summer. But typically we are up atsmithville on weekdays. It's just too crazy during the weekend. We will occasionally go out early on a Saturday or Sunday. We put in the water early march and we are usually done late October. One year we had Christmas lights up when we finally put everything away.

Thanks! Do you start it up yourself or do you take it to a local shop?
