reading you post post I had R7 Surf, and agree with your comment the R8 Surf just feels right Heavier etc. The the electronics are Glitchy if it does not boot up right then the garmin controls are delayed or not existent and you have too start over. The surf Gates on the malibu can be re calibrated I am l looking for this options via the garmin controls. The first time I used the gate the Clevis pin safety catch got wedged between the gate an actuator and shut off the system. Happened on both gate the first time out. I was able to reach in and rotate it out. THere is a lack of operator information on the surf system with cobalt.
Welcome aboard and nice looking boat. Might have the dealer look at your electronics as I haven't had any glitchy problems with mine. They are a little slow to boot up but when surfing and loading a surfer I just turn of the key and turn it back on click to auxillary and it keeps the screens booted while we switch surfers with the engine not running. The only issue I have had with the surf gate has been with new surfers learning and if they fall and the rope falls just right it can get caught in the surf gate as you slow and it closes. It gave us an error code and we were able to slide the rope out and everything worked. I am enjoying the heck out of mine and all I get is WOW about the wave it makes! Lastly, we had no problems gettting on plane this past weekend as long as I adjusted the ballast levels with respect to how many people were on the boat which meant I had little or no water in the ballast this past weekend.

One thing you will also find with these surf models is it’s easy to have the wake wash over the stern if you stop too quickly once a surfer falls. Found this out the hard way our first weekend. It takes some practice slowing down and getting out of the way of the wake. This is not the case in what I would call dedicated surf boats like MasterCraft, Axis, etc. that have higher rear ends.

:D :D Absolutely correct, as I found out the hard way as well after the first surfer. A slight turn to the port when slowing down seems to do it for me.

So Soonerfan you think you need any ballast? Is the wave good enough without any?

Plus be careful slowing down fast period so you don't hydrolock it.

Welcome aboard! I'm also a R8S newcomer. Only main issue I've had is a faulty (non-configured) fuel meter that almost left me stranded. Hopefully your dealer configured it before delivery but if they didn't, keep an eye on it!

What I have found over the past several weekends is that if I have 6 or more adults with ice chests I need very little or no ballast fill. If it's a light run 3-4 people with no loaded ice chests for the day I will fill the ballast. Even with a light load and no ballast the wave is much better than my R7S

Can someone pls confirm the R8 surf with 430 takes the Volvo penta K6 prop. My new R8 surf is in but it was shipped with no prop and is missing a couple of interior pieces. I just bought the K6 prop set online and had it shipped to my dealer. It was not available as a kit so I had to order the front and rear separate.

Part #’s
22417009 kit

22414381 front
22414387 rear

Just hoping to ensure I got the right props.

Thank you.

Hello everyone. Just got my R8 surf on the 4th of July. Has anyone noticed the boat seems heavier on the port side. It leans port on my lift. I also felt when I turn to the port side, the boat gets abnormally low in the water.

Ty. I don’t understand it. It’s almost like a ballast tank is still full but I checked.

Like how bad is it listing? Next time you take it out have some one take a pic. Do you have a porcelain head? Maybe that adds some weight to that side? Sorry I can’t help ya other than to say mine doesn’t do that. We just have the standard portapotty
