New here with a 1995 Cobalt 252, Scottsdale AZ

Post by thunder550 »

Hi everyone, just picked up a 1995 Cobalt 252 with the 502 mag and Bravo 1 drive. Bought from Deep Creek Lake, MD and transported to Scottsdale, AZ. My dad had a 1998 252 that he sold about 5 years ago, really missed that boat and finally got a chance to get my own.

The boat needed a little bit of TLC, no major issues but needed some minor things. The dealership I bought from (it was on consignment) wet sanded and buffed it out for me, needed a bimini, impeller, belts, new radio, a few corrections to the wiring, new captain's call solenoid, and a good cleaning. Trailer needed some work too...new bunks, disc brakes, wiring, LED lighting, fenders, and some nicer looking wheels and tires.

Happy to be here, anyone else from the Phoenix area or anywhere else in AZ?

When I first looked at it in MD:

Thunder550, welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!!!

Great 252 you got there. Boy she buffed out nicely. 👍🏻

Send us another pic of her on the water. ...and an interior shot as well. We just can't get enough pics here. In fact, throw in a pic of that bad boy 502 while you're at it! :D

Hope you stay awhile my Cobalt friend. Great to have you on board

I like the way that one looks - classy color, and the white stripe in the middle of the blue top is sharp.

Thanks for the warm welcome :) Happy to have found an active Cobalt forum!

Here's a couple on the water, and an interior shot. The vinyl is in surprisingly good condition, only issues are on the engine hatch cover and the area of the rear seats that contact the hatch cover. Everything else looks great, no cracks or tears or anything. The wood paneling on the dash is faded, I want to try and refinish it this winter. Not sure yet if I want to (or if it's possible to) restore the wood-look finish, or if I should just try to scuff and paint it. Took the interior shot below before we did a thorough interior cleaning, carpets cleaned up really nice with a carpet shampooer. I'll try to get a couple engine pics soon, don't have any yet.

Awesome pics thunder550. I like how "cobalt" is written on the back of your seats.

Is that other brown boat (tri hull?) a Cobalt as well pictured in the background?

Welcome from Oklahoma Thunder!

I'll have to dig around and find that thread, but you can replace your dash panels with OEM and make it look new. I found the original suppliers for Cobalt. It's pricey so be prepared for the sticker shock!

We are up north right on the border of Scottsdale and Phoenix. Closest lake to us is Pleasant, so we go there mostly. Back when I used to wakeboard and care more about getting nice water we would go to Bartlett all the time, always seemed to be less busy than any of the other close lakes. I used to love going out on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon and sharing the entire lake with 2 other boats, lots of good riding as long as it wasn't windy. We've been to Saguaro a handful of times, it's pretty but too small IMO.

Does your brother boat? If so, which lake(s)?

Looks kinda like it, but I zoomed in on the original pic and it says "Tri-Sonic" on the side.

Thank you both! I took a look at their website and might be kinda cool to update the look with carbon fiber or something like that. At least until I find out the price anyway

No he doesn't boat but does go out to that lake. That's why I asked. I figured that's where you went. I have a buddy on the crownline forum that has I think a crownline 190 that boats there also.

Well tell them to say hi if they ever see me out there. Or give me a random middle finger if that's more their style, I'm easy

Got that pic of the 502 this evening, even had a professional set up some ambient lighting to make it look nicer (meaning it was dusk and I turned the interior lights on).
