Stringing it all together--history lesson

Post by sailor55330 »

So, I've read a few posts lately of some members getting some great finds on vintage Cobalts and it got me to thinking--

How many consecutive years of boats can this board string together? What I mean is how many different years of boats can we the members account for having owned or currently own. Example----1974, 1975, 1976, etc.

It might be cool to see if we can get pictures of all the consecutive years that have been owned personally and drop them in a slideshow of some sort to show the real evolution of the lines. (of course, I don't know how to do that, so it will take someone with more tech savy than me). I'm sure there will be some holes, but who knows.

Anyone up for the challenge?

I'm interested also. I've been interested in Cobalt genealogy, but even more so since I've been on here. I have lots of questions/thoughts. For example, in what years were the green and maroon colors available? What years had the stripe available above the rub rail?

I've got 2014, and a good buddy has a 2007. We are together frequently, and there is no difference in the lines of our boats between those years. Just a few options. This is for the 232/242 line.

The things different on our boats are the windshield surround (his is painted silver, mine is stainless) the accent color on the dash (his is all the tan color, and mine is dark brown, like the wood grain (see pictures below). Mine has the wood, his is all aluminum, and the same color. Our gauges are different as well. Again, all of those might just be options though. The actual boat has no discernable difference between our 2 years.

How do you like the fusion? I have been thinking about installing the same unit in my 242. Did you you have to widen the factory holes or does it just fit?

That Fusion was on my buddy's boat. My boat is the one in the first picture (2 tone). We installed it on Friday before Labor Day weekend this year. So far, he really likes it, and I do to. I plan on installing the same thing on mine over the winter. To answer your question, yes, we had to widen the remote hole at the helm. Very easy with a rotozip bit tip on my dremmel after marking off the area with the supplied template.
