293 - Bow hook access
Hi, my bow hook (the D ring) is loose and I can't figure out how to get to the back side to tighten. I was guessing the plate behind the windless but wanted to ask before I start removing things. I don't see any way from inside the boat.

Correct this thing is called the "bow eye" and chafe plate.

Check around & under the windlass compartment. Otherwise, if you have docking lights, on my old 343 I was able to remove one & gain access that way.

Thanks I will poke around - no lights up there though. I checked the rode locker etc and it's down to pulling the windless or tearing apart the inside upholstery. I don't care to do either.

Re: 293 - Bow hook access
In closing of this exciting question, my 293 has two access points in the anchor locker, one at the extreme bow that goes nowhere and then one inspection port in the lower tight. Removing that port allowed me to get a picture of the back of the bow eye, the nuts are barely hanging on but there is no way I can reach anything with tools. I am going to cut a new port directly over the right spot, replace with locking nuts etc.

I did ! lol. I have a peek pic of them and I cut a hole and literally the bolts were one turn each from disaster. Fender washers, lock washers and nylon locking nuts in place. Once I cut the finish hole and inspection port is down I will post the results.

Interesting that a nylon lock nut would loosen that much. Looking forward to additional pics.

Doesn't look like a Nyloc nut to me. I tried zooming in too.TwoDuckDad wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 6:53 am Interesting that a nylon lock nut would loosen that much. Looking forward to additional pics.
