Front Trolling Motor on a 220???
My gut says this will get me flamed lol. But I have to ask. Has anyone jerry rigged it so a Minn Kota Terrova could be mounted to the front of a 220? Mine is an ‘05, I’ll spare everyone the details, but my wife wants me to look into it
I have that front hatch up there. I just don’t know what I’d mount it to.
All thoughts are welcome. Thanks!!

Re: Front Trolling Motor on a 220???
It's a lot of boat (lots of weight and water displacement) to move with a trolling motor, and most people here have decided that a Cobalt just isn't a very good fishing boat. The whole "reclaimed space" concept of the cockpit area and high deadrise make for a great runabout, but poor fishing. I don't see a great place to mount a trolling motor, and I think you'd eventually regret drilling into the fiberglass deck (plus, it's a long way down to the water, even on a 220).
I've seen very usable used aluminum fishing boats on Craigslist for $3000-5000, and I might be thinking that route if I were set on trolling.

You think a 60” shaft would be too short?

If you want to be pushing "clean" water below the hull, I think you're looking at as much reach as you can get. Given the size of the boat, I'd toy with the idea of mounting it to the back (swim platform?) as well.

Re: Front Trolling Motor on a 220???
I don’t know if the ones that mount to the rear have “spot lock” for on the fly anchoring. That’s the main reason for the TM ….. that and me and my kid are fishermen
As I see it, IF I decide to be stupid and do this, I’d lose that anchor/storage compartment up front. I’d need wood or aluminum backing to go IN that compartment to secure the mounting plate. It would require drilling and fabricating that probably isn’t worth it. And THEN because the boss would prefer the white TM, that’ll cost more ….. and I’d still need to run wire, mount a switch, and buy batteries. Probably pushing 4k ….. maybe I’ll just find a more effective anchor instead.
