I’m considering buying a 2020 R5 surf with 350 engine. I’m a little concerned it will be underpowered while loaded down while surfing. Does anyone have any experience with this boat and engine combo and surfing. I’ve been on R5’s with 380 and they have plenty of power. Thanks.

I think the consensus is that more power is obviously better. I have an R8S which is considerably heavier than an R5, we have a 380 on it and it's been fine even when loaded down with people. We also had an R7 surf with the 380 and that had more than enough power. So I would think the 350 would be fine but I have no direct experience with that combo.

So glad you found us bp4h.

Nothing can beat the torque of a big block V8 in these larger boats. Your 25 footer is no exception. Yes the 350 can get the job done but you'll be wanting for more IMHO.

Others will chime in shortly.
Any pics?

And welcome aboard mate.

I know 2 people with 350 on their R5's and that is a great engine size for the boat. You will be really happy with that.
It really shouldn't matter while surfing especially since surfing operates at lower speed/RPM. You typically start with a slower pull out of the water than say Skiing, I don't think you would see any difference surfing with a 430 vs 380 vs 350. The only time you will probably notice a difference on that boat is if you are pulling a slalom skier or cursing at top speeds.
