Looking to purchase a pre-owned A25, or R3

Post by Cobalt10 »

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the Cobaltchat forum. I have an older model Cobalt, and I am looking to upgrade to a pre-owned A25. Will consider an A25 or R3, or potentially an R5. Looking for something with relatively low to reasonable engine hours, foldable Arch tower, and well-maintained.

If anyone is looking to sell their A25, or R3, please let me know.

Thank you!

Thank you for the reply AsLan7! I'm looking forward to being a part of this forum.

Your profile says your are currently "boatless." Are you waiting for the right model to buy again?

Does anyone have an opinion regarding a 300HP engine on a R3? Would this be sufficient power for general use to use as a runabout, or would this maybe be underpowered? I'm not planning for too much wakeboarding or tube towing).

As soon as you guys get your new contract that is as good or better than AA or United you will probably be shopping more in the yacht class.

Most people will say when it comes to boats bigger is better - "no replacement for displacement". That said, I have an R5 with the older generation VP 300 (5.7 liter) and I think it is fine for the R5, so would think it would be ok in an R3. I have a top speed 47mph or so and never any issues getting on plane etc. We don't do any watersports, general cruise around 25mph or so and usually no more than 3 of us. If I were buying a new R6, I would probably get the 350 - that seems to be what most of the non surf models I see at my dealer have. But with the R5 I bought it used and never even thought it was underpowered - at least for our use. If I routinely put 6-7 people in it and used it for watersports I might think differently - actually might think about a bigger boat!

We are running the stock 300 HP in our R3. Never had a problem. Most we've pulled was tube with two adults and maybe 8 people onboard.
We hardly feel the need to go over 40, so I've never even tried to see top speed. Bimini top is never down either.
