Converting to EOH brakes

Finally making the switch to EOH. Here is my progress thus far.

Looks good. You did the junction box like I did.

What is the purpose of having the platform raised?

One of the ramps I use is very shallow during summer droughts. So the 3” riser is just some added insurance to keep the hydrastar out of the water.

That's what I kinda figured.

Will be interesting to see how you like the Hydrastar. I have the Dexter and the Titan on two different trailers.

How are you powering the unit? I ran 6AWG back to my rear bumper and put an Anderson connector there. My F150 has 16AWG wire running through the 7 pin which is not big enough to power the EOH pump.

10AWG is likely big enough but do yourself a big favor and measure the voltage at your junction box while someone applies the brakes just to make sure.

Also Hydrastar says that the circuit needs to be able to source up to 40A under certain conditions.

40A when at freezing temps. Being a boat trailer thar doesnt move during DFW mild winters, I’m not too worried.

Not a bad idea to check the V at the box though.

Yeah....you are likely ok. With my Ford F-150, I was seeing below 9V and the pump would sometimes not work. 10 AWG should be a lot better.

With a 30A load and around 30'' of wire(not sure it will be that long) you will have a around 1.1V of drop which means if your alternator is putting out 13.5V you will have 12.4V which should be plenty.

@bruceb58 do you know the process for replacing brake hardware at the axles with an EOH actuator? If I push the caliper pistons back in, does the fluid free flow back into main actuator reservoir or is there a certain process reqd?

Not sure I fully understand the question but if its just pushing the caliper back in to replace the pads, it works fine with my BrakeRite. I haven't tried it yet with my Dexter. Of course you have the EOH that I don't have any experience with.

BTW, whenever I push in pistons when replacing pads, I try to always open the bleeder to release fluid there at the caliper. I now do this with all my vehicles. I also replace brake fluid every 3 years on all my vehicles including my boat EOH brake systems.

Looks good. Have you towed much with it? I love mine especially on my travel trailer.

Just a short tow with it so far, but already love it.
