First winter clean up 2001 262

Post by dbleil89 »

I bought this 2001 262 in early October this fall. The boat was significantly less than market value and didn't show very well. Luckily the marina that was selling it was honest and knew the condition which is why it was marketed so low. I was able to take it for a lake test and everything worked as it should.

I have taken this week off work to use up some carry over vacation time from last year. I brought the boat into the garage and started my clean up of everything, vinyl, stereo, buffing the gel coat, and replacing the bellows and gimble bearing. I have the port side all buffed just needs the final stage sealer applied. Starboard side I start tomorrow, however I don't envy anyone with a boat any bigger then this. Im really happy with how well and easy this gel coat is cleaning up. It wasnt horrible so i figures it would clean up.
I have most of the vinyl cleaned up but dont have many pictures yet. I removed the 2 rockford fosgate 10" subs from under the rear seat. The boxes were made of particle board and were soft starting to mold. Also they took up most of the space under the rear seat.

This is a link to the actual boat from a broker who tried to sell it before the owner traded it in at the marina I bought it from.

Hey great job bringing her back to life. Fine job on the gel coat and vinyl. We had that same model in the same colors and really enjoyed the versatility, performance, and looks.

I see you removed the telescoping stern light. Did you remove it to buff out that section? Those tend to fail and are hard to come by.

Love the pics. Keep ‘em coming my friend.

I did remove the power stern light. It wouldn't go all the way up or down. I took it apart to see if it was salvageable, but the gear rope was all twisted and stripped. I was waiting to get the boat in the garage to install the new innovation replacement light. It's still a telescopic light pole, so it stores very easily and came with mounting brackets for storage. Got the heavy compound buffing done on the rest of the blue today. Will use a lighter compounfld and polish on the rest of the boat tomorrow

Decided to change it up a bit and look into the stereo and wiring that was done. The person that did the stereo installation didn't do this one at all how I would of done it. The big amp that powered the 3 subwoofers was mounted to the side trim piece in the head compartment with 1 drywall screw and 1 brass screw into the stainless trim. I removed the 2 rear subs and wires for them from under the back seat. The amp will still power 1 subwoofer that is under the drivers helm. Moved the amp to behind the side panel and kept it hidden. Through bolted it with stainless Bolts and lock nuts. I only used 3 of the 4 mounting holes though so I was able to hide all of the Bolts under the side panel. I think it should have plenty of air space where it's mounted. Removed the head unit and XM radio antenna box.

I'll have to correct all of the cheap butt connectors and all the wiring. Not sure what I'm going to do with the speaker amplifier that's on the back of the door for the Head compartment. I hate the way it looks and the wiring is horrible. I like having an amp powering the cockpit speakers to keep the sound from distorting when we turn it up a bit while floating behind the boat. I will be ordering a fusion head unit like I have in the Formula.
