Experience w/ Tower Flag Mounts?

Post by SAB220 »

2004 - Cobalt 220

Does anybody have any experience with tower flag mounts?

There are from what I can tell two major mount brands: an Aerial and Big Head brand. They all advertise with skier-down flags. But, what about the stars and stripes, pirate, red sox, flags, etc. Do I by two poles (staffs) one for skier down and one to modify for another flag, or do I hope for the best and figure I can buy another staff to fit those major brands at a boat store. There have been many complaints on these things.

I think mine is airhead. Yes it works but you have to make your pole fit properly with some kind of shim system. My cobalt flag pole works perfectly with some wiring conduit. The holder isn't the strongest. They use a cheap pin. If you get the spot you want it I would get it welded at the angle that you want it at. I like mine though. I also use a large tie strap up higher to help prevent the wind from forcing the flag backwards.

The Aerial brand is shown below.
https://www.aerialwakeboarding.com/prod ... 225-pa.htm.

This Aerial appears (aluminum shell) to be a little more robust then the Air Head (stainless shell), but Aerial looks like foam holding the flag staff in place suggesting you need to buy their flag staff or find a staff close to the same diameter. I know this is only a flag mount but if I can tap into somebody experience and do it right the first time that would be good thing, other then fixing the mount every-time I hit lets say 40MPH (46 knots)

That really is no different then what I have. I run 50mph no prob with mine. They use a tiny pin to hold it in a certain position. That's the weak spot. That's why I would find your spot that you want to mount it. Then weld it in that position.my two cents.Pictures of your boat and start a New thread in the new members section and introduce yourself. And welcome from Wisconsin.

Thanks for the post. I think I'm going with the Aerial. The foam may be a good idea. I did read a post where someone drilled-out the staff post support and install better hardware. Will update post in spring with my findings. All I can think of when I talk to someone from Wisconsin area (Minnesota) during this time is the excellent Ice fishing season they have. (for me it's the dam Jiffy 30 ice drill that's too heavy for me)

Thanks but to me there's nothing good about ice fishing either.lol I don't fish and I had blue gill yesterday for much and all I had to do was order it from the bar stool :-) plus I really don't like fish.lol
What flag are you going to fly? The factory cobalt one? Plus everyone that gets in and sit of the boat grabs the tower to help themselves in so watch where you mount it. Of course mine is on the side where we load all the time. I might switch it this coming year if I have the tower on the boat.

"IF" I have the tower on the boat.

Hey BB you should have told your fabricator to take about 6 or 7 inches out so you can fit in the garage. It would be cheaper than raising the roof or digging out the floor.

Or bending it up...
