Boat Insurance

Post by gdane »

Okay Fellow Cobalt Boat Owners,
I have State Farm Insurance for I'm not saying but for a lot of years!! Never have had a claim on my boat policy. So the question is it worth saving $300 per year going with BOAT US? Same coverage same deductible Apple to apples! Just curios your thoughts?
By the way I am a newbie but love the web site. BRING ON SUMMER TIME!!

No way in Heck would I drop them. Not sure you know what happened to my boat, but that's ok it's a sore subject yet.lol
I've had them for 30 years and have made a few claims. Always had cash in my hand in a week with no headaches. I would pay double to keep them.
For my boat I pay under $400/year.

We use progressive. Moved all our stuff there away from Allstate. Premiums were cut in half across the board. Never had to deal with a claim though.

State Farm is very reputable. Loyalty has value in my book.

We have always used Ski Safe (aka Sea Safe).

Check them out...

My 0.02 cents on this as someone that works with insurance people everyday... There is something to be said for claims handling...thats when you want your insurance company to exceed your expectations... You get what you pay for!

I used a broker last year and got a really good rate. This year when it came time to renew my policy went up $150 from last year. I reached out to charter lakes and got a policy $100 cheaper than my initial plan. If you go on the other boards you will find Charter Lakes rules over everyone.

It's the policy contract that's important. Companies can match limits and deductibles to make the coverage appear identical, but its the policy language that provides or excludes coverage. A cheap policy is cheaper for a reason. Saving a couple hundred bucks could literally cost you thousands in incomplete coverage..or none at all.

I value an agent that has an office near me. I look at it as having an advocate if there was ever the need for a claim.

All good points.. Service beyond expectations as Nauti implied.

I have Allstate.. spend a little more but I'm loyal to there service too. Do I need a silly app on my phone?? Let's hope I don't push the app weekly!!

"Boat us". is very reputable as I've learned just make sure your tier coverages are what you want. Even the best companies can offer competitive polices that may lessen coverages.

If I boat on big water. Fresh or salt I would want to make sure it covered tow. And check on how far out they will come and get you. I boat inland so that's not as important to me now.

State farm is the only one I'll ever have. They have been so good to me over the last 34 years. I Tammy don't think they are that much more than others either.

For what it is worth I had American National and got full value which was what I had paid for the boat 9 years earlier. Their claims team was top notch. They are backed by the Moody Family out of Galveston,TX and may not be available in other states. Just wanted to report on a positive experience.
