Re: Does it need wet sanding?
Appreciate the info everyone. I’ll order some of the 3m products and see if it will make better progress. I have a dewalt orbital that I’m using.

Does it need wet sanding?
Posted here a few times and we just recently had the interior redone by Coz. I’m trying to get the exterior to match the interior now.
Used Presta gelcoat compound with a white wool pad, but I don’t think it’s enough to get the white gelcoat back to a nice shine. Thoughts?

Bimini frame 98 252
Ours broke this weekend and I’m guessing finding a replacement will be very difficult.
Hoping someone has a line on one or where I can order one.

Showing the message in the outbox, but not sent. I’m in the Springfield area and can pick it up.

Re: 252 gears and clutch
If it were mine, they would show me why the gears need replacement.
If there are no marks on the gears, tell them to replace only clutch.
Mercruiser redesigned their gears and clutch after a few years. There were apparently some issues with them and in doing so you can’t just buy the clutch ...

Re: 252 gears and clutch
How old is the boat? FW/SW? Whats more important is do you trust the guy?
Yes I spent that much to stabilize the outdrive and baseline the boat and its control/systems when I first got the boat. i had no history only promises ( bellow cracked, gimble worn, water pump impeller, water in gear oil ...

Re: 252 gears and clutch
I definitely understand the logic you are saying. Just not sure I want to start getting into the $3k per problem realm.

252 gears and clutch
Let my situation be an example of why you always have a survey done.
Took the boat to The Harbor to have it looked at for possible clutch replacement. Apparently the 502 w/bravo 1 you cannot just replace the clutch. The gears must be replaced at the same time and the quote was $3500-$4000.

Re: New to me 1998 252
I don’t think Cobalt offered straight through hull exhaust as an option, is the Y-pipe still there with a cap on it?
Yep a 525 sleeper engine 🤔🤔
More like the captains call failed and capping the y pipe and going straight through hull was the cheaper option.
This wouldn’t surprise me ...

Re: New to me 1998 252
Right ^^^^^
However, what is up with the 8 hose clamps on the starboard exhaust hose? What's going on there?
Someone ran out of hose and spliced something together. Please fix that 👍
I’ll be getting into the boat in the off season. That is on the to do list for sure. The list is long, but ...

Re: New to me 1998 252
I believe that’s correct. There isn’t a switch to divert the exhaust.thunder550 wrote: Sun Aug 09, 2020 9:47 amSimrek for sure. Super easy to install.KrisA wrote: Sun Aug 09, 2020 8:49 am Which drive shower do you recommend or is there just one specific brand?

Love that motor, looks like thru-hull exhaust, without captains call?

Re: New to me 1998 252
Interior is in rough shape, but that will be getting attention this off-season.
